This hotel was a surprise. It is a big hotel . Our room was very comfortable . The staff most helpful and friendly. We had dinner in Finnigans bar and the food was very good. Brian, was friendly and gave excellent service. Wifi only in the public areas, good parking on site.

Stayed for 4 nights. Comfortable hotel with traditional decor. Our room was clean and comfortable. Drawback was that our room was not accessible without taking a half flight of stairs, either up from the lift on one floor or down from the floor above, as we were in the extended part of the hotel. Worth bearing in mind when booking... More

Visiting Sligo is always a pleasure and travelling by train from Dublin the Southern Hotel is always first choice. This time we brought our eldest grandchild with us and the room we had was splendid. Room 304. Plenty of room to spread ourselves, and even a jacuzzi bath to relax in after trotting around Sligo town.

Hotel is in a nice location. That is the only positive thing. When you enter hotel, they have downstairs all modern around reception area. When you open bedroom door its so old and outdated. Rooms are very basic. This is not a three star hotel!! Reception staff not friendly and not professional. Imagine saying to a guest "Stand there until... More

Dear Lisa L, Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback, we are disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. On approach to hotel I was dismayed to see 2 sets of steps which had to be mounted with luggage on tow before we could reach reception. The hotel is ideally situated, just a nice walkin distance from city centre. The bed rooms were very basic and very dated, but otherwise clean and fresh. I found the reception staff polite but... Hotel was easy to find with signs directing to it. Took us a few minutes to realize we had to climb 2 sets of stairs to reach the lobby as it is not on ground level. We dragged our suitcases up the stairs although later found out someone would have helped us. Check in was efficient but not overly helpful.... More

On a two night stay with my family we found this hotel staff very welcoming, with an excellent location. The only major issue I had was when I wished to pay for my stay in pounds sterling, I was informed that there was no allowance on the exchange rate i.e I would be paying pound for euro; I found this... The location of this hotel is perfect for a short stroll to the bars and restaurants of Sligo town. It's also only 5-10 mins drive to the beautiful beaches at Strandhill and Rosse Point.
