Today we visited the hotel for a spot of lunch, here is my honest review: 1. Staff - now, the staff were very friendly and were fine. There were no issues from me towards the staff whatsoever. 2. Food - now this is where the food bought the review right down. The lunch menu is a set menu and a Carvery. The prices were extremely high for the quality of the food. Example, I got a portion of chips and this came to €4.50. I got a small bowl (no bigger than a condiment bowl) and the chips were cold, dry and certainly not fresh. For the price, I expect more and fresher food! The lasagna was not that good either. The soup was average but not as good as other establishments. 3. Location - it was a lovely venue, smack dab in the middle of Monaghan town. Great addition is the car park 4. Facilities - the men’s toilet was rather small which isn’t normally an issue. However, the tap did not work, making it impossible to clean your hands, meaning god knows what could be spread throughout the venue. Overall, I wouldn’t come back to this hotel for food. Overpriced and poor quality.

Having stayed in some of the best hotels London has to offer I can honestly say that this hotel is a pure gem! Hotel staff are friendly, food is excellent - the best in Monaghan I would say and the cocktail bar is beautiful. Accommodation is very dated and unless you book one of the suites ( we stayed in the Diamond Suite) you will not get a great view of the town nor the space that a suite provides. I cannot praise the staff enough in this hotel. I had 4 of my girls aged under 15 and my 4 year old grand daughter with me for dinner most nights and the restaurant staff went above and beyond to make sure they were well catered for- especially my gravy and mash loving 9 year old! You must stay here if visiting Monaghan.

We visited the Westerna Arms for dinner recently. The food was just average but we decided against returning it to the kitchen due to time constraints. However when the the waitress came to collect our plates, we did mention that the food served was poor and seemed to have been cooked earlier and reheated. If it wasn’t for the appalling rudeness we experienced from the waitress and her supervisor we would probably not have submitted this review. They totally dismissed our comments and offered no apology whatsoever. We were not looking for a price reduction as we chose to consume the edible part of the meal, however we did expect an apology. After we commented on the food the staff did not return to our table to offer us dessert or tea/coffee. It seems that our feedback was not appreciated and this establishment does not appreciate its customers. Needless to say we will not be returning to the Westerna Arms, Monaghan.

We were passing this hotel and stopped in for lunch. We were pleased to realise that there was a carvery, which was reasonably priced. The food was good but basic, especially the sauces which were homemade and definitely not as described. The mushroom sauce was white sauce with one small slice of mushroom. The peppered sauce was like gravy, but this was nice and made the meal. The desserts (not included) are delicious. The staff were very professional and attentive. We would revisit this hotel.

Food omg could not believe the difference in the price increase , the size of the portions completely changed since refurbishment, potato grattin not even half a small potato swimming in sauce , chips came in a very small ramican , lucky if there was ten chips , never again 18 euro for burger & chip no side dressing anymore no cold slaw terrible Won’t be having food again so disappointed as food was always so good and there reputation. Was a regular trip for a meal not again iam afraid . Not value for money a ripoff

My mother and her now husband got married in the Westenra Arms this last weekend and we stayed for three nights. Kieran and the rest of the staff couldn't do more for us. And not just for the bride and groom, they bent over backwards for every member of our group. We ate every meal there for three days and it was superb, everything I ordered was delicious and I heard the same reports from the rest of the group. Thank you Kieran and the rest of the staff for an unforgettable weekend!
