An oasis in a busy old town. I was going to say quirky but that would be misleading. This is a quality hotel with excellent staff throughout, excellent food, small but very comfortable rooms all within a unique atmosphere. Highly highly recommended. Staying here is like belonging to an exclusive but friendly and welcoming club.

My one night stay included dinner with a past student of this former Christian Brothers school building that is now a very nice hotel with pub and restaurant. The staff were very friendly. Dinner for a group of five was excellent and with great service. Several of us had the catch of the day which was delicious. Bedroom was on... More

The Scholars Townhouse was our final destination in Ireland and it did not disappoint. The rooms were on the small side, but comfortable and clean. The food was delicious and the atmosphere both in the bar area and the dining room were very relaxed, despite the regal feel to both. Staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting alternate places to... More

We stayed at the Scholars on May 16, 2014 near the end of our 1.5 weeks on the island. Everything about this place was fantastic. The McGowans have created a quaint hotel based on local history with 5-star cuisine and service. The staff are very friendly and extremely competent and genuinely interested in providing first class service. The food was... More

We stayed here recently on the weekend. Having won a voucher for Lanu Medi Spa in drogheda and a friend purchasing us an online deal voucher for the hotel it seemed like a perfect combination. We booked for an additional night on the Saturday. First impressions of the hotel they were very accommodating around changing of the days and times... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night Dinner, B&B with a GrabOne offer, and we were well pleased with the excellent value. The hotel is convenient to the town centre but was very quiet and had a good car park. We had asked for twin beds and ended up on the "Presidential Suite" which was a family room... More

I stayed one night, had dinner and breakfast. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is small but very homely, clean and the food was superb. Breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I have had in many years. Will return again
