Stumbled upon the Butler House on somebody's recommended list of hotels in Kilkenny, and what a pleasant surprise it was. Number one, it shouldn't be listed under B&Bs in Trip Advisor, but under hotels, boutique or otherwise. I try to stay away from B&Bs unless I have to, not being a B&B person myself. Second, the things that have been... more

Excellent hotel/bed & breakfast. On the castle grounds, our room overlooked the beautiful garden and the Kilkenny castle itself--what a view! They also gave us a free room upgrade since the hotel was not booked, something which I greatly appreciate and admire, a showing of great service. Fabulous bathroom--the best I've ever had in a hotel stay. I think the... more

We stayed here during our honeymoon, and we had an overall lovely experience. At first, we were a bit weary as we came into the main floor which is primarily meeting rooms and offices. But, when we got to our room, everything changed. Our room was very expansive, lovely, and we had an incredible view of the gardens and the... more

Butler House is a high-class B&B rather than a hotel. It has no bar or restaurant for example. The decor in the rooms is minimalist and clean and comfy. Common areas such as stairs and the entrance lobby make the best of the historic fittings of building, but the subtle colours (white, cream, beige) often give them a cold atmosphere.... more

we have just returned from a weekend stay here. It was wonderful and we will stay here again in August. Our room was a standard room on the street side so, yes, there was street noise but, despite living in an area where we have NO noise at night, this did not bother us - we had been warned of... more

Butler House doesn't present itself as a posh hotel but rather as a B&B (although city run). While not exactly affordable, it is not expensive in Kilkenny terms (120 euros a night for 2). Like many hotels and B&Bs in Ireland, it gets many things right but not all. For instance, Butler House is not quite clear as to whether... more

I booked this guest house as a cheaper alternative to a hotel and I was amazed to find that the standard was way higher than many other hotels I've previous stayed in. The rooms in this accommodation are massive! On entering the room my boyfriend thought they had made a mistake and had given us a suite but infact this... more

We stayed at the Butler House last week for one night. We really liked our room and the clean, simple decoration. The room was small but had a lovely view of the Kilkenny Castle, Design Center, and a beautiful garden. The breakfast at the Design Center was good - I had a fabulous scone but the eggs were microwaved. The... more

Beware - staying at the Butler House was a terrible disappointment, definately not worth the money spent. We had several issues with this "house", including a concern for basic safety. It is important to mention that the property is owned, managed and maintained by the City of Kilkenny, which helps explain the problems here. It brings back memories of government... more

Really special stay - staff were so nice and welcoming. Much nicer than any high star hotel - like living in the medieval times in a modern city. would highly recommend this above any other kilkenny hotel. more
