Can't believe how little we paid for this place given the location and the room. A ten minute walk from the station, easy to navigate and very centrally located. The staff were unbelievably friendly and gave us all the information we needed, pretty much without even being asked. The room was enormous with a really great ensuite bathroom (loved the... More

We had a great time in Kilkenny and staying at the Butler House was a highlight. While we didn't have a room facing the castle (ours faced the street), we liked seeing the street activity. Our bathroom was huge with a great shower and bath. The breakfast was one of the best we had on our trip. The staff was... More

We stayed here for one night in July on our 5th trip to Ireland. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful and our room was a delight. Even though our room did not face the garden we still found it more than suitable. Breakfast in the converted stable was probably our favorite breakfast during our entire trip.... More

I have to agree with a previous reviewer that rooms facing the street are just okay. My husband & I stayed here as it was recommended in Sawdays 'Special Places to Stay'. We usually love the places they recommend but Butler House wasn't really special. We had a front room which was tiny and had no character. The house decor... More

If you go to Kilkenny (and you really should consider it) this is a perfect option to stay at. Once you have made it through the busy streets of Kilkenny you'll be rewarded with hotel parking space, a very warm welcome and nice and comfortable rooms. If you are lucky, your room will be facing the garden and the castle... More

We stayed here for one night while visiting Kilkenny for the day. Our room was something of a magazine! We had the family room since our two children were traveling with us. We had the most magficent view of the gardens and castle! The room was extremely large, the beds were super comfortable and the showers were perfect! Our son... More

We had a very large room overlooking the gardens and the castle. Only take a room if it looks over the garden as the ones facing the street are noisy and not special. The room had large bay windows with seats or really flat pillows under them to lie out on under the window to watch the birds and gardens.The... More

8 of us '40 something' ladies have just returned from a weekend away in Kilkenny. We stayed in a wonderful guest house right in the heart of the town, very close to the shops. The guesthouse itself is from a Georgian Era with high ceilings, cornicing, sash windows and shutters. The rooms were enormous - much more spacious than we... More

Butler House is in a great location, and it features a breakfast included, but has the feel of a hotel. The gardens in the back are terrific. The location is right in town, and steps from the castle. Breakfast is in the shadow of the castle. We liked Richard's advice as well. Our room was huge.

This was our second visit to the Butler House in Kilkenny. Once again, we had a wonderful time. Richard and the rest of the staff made us feel right at home, gave us great suggestions for dinner and made sure we were comfortable. Our rooms were large with great views overlooking the gardens and Kilkenny Castle. Breakfast was excellent!!!
