After a bit of searching to find the entrance of the main road, we were really pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and prompt, the rooms spacious and the gardens beautiful. Breakfast was served in a resturaunt adjacent to the House and was generous and the produce fresh. The whole package was definately worth the splurge more

My husband and I, with our 3 college age children, spent two nights at the Butler House at the end of May. We were in one of the "superior" rooms with a beautiful view of the garden. The kids were in a "standard" room which was considered a triple. They had 2 rooms--one with a full bed and another with... more

The connection to Kilkenny castle makes this a very special place to stay. We had a huge room with the elusive 'wow' factor and a huge bathroom too. The room had a lovely view over the garden towards the castle. Location couldn't be better, in the centre of the city. Staff were very friendly and helped us with all our... more

When we sent Rachel and Ben to Butler House, as part of their honeymoon, we wanted something traditionally Irish, but out of the ordinary. We booked online. Richard (from Butler House) and I communicated a few times and although it looked spectacular, it seemed costly, I booked the least expensive room. When Richard wrote back to confirm our reservation, he... more

My friend and I stayed at Butler House for two nights. We just took a chance based on what we read on their website. I cannot understand the negative reviews. No, it is not a traditional hotel. However, it is beautiful. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff were very accomodating and helpful, especially Richard. You don't really... more

We arrived in Kilkenny for our one night stay trying to navigate the very narrow streets. They looked like they were one way, but found out they were not. It was very hard to find the Butler House. All I had seen were pictures that showed the ivy covered front, but you cannot see this at all from the street.... more

I wasnt expecting to stay here, but there was a mix up with my reservation, and I was sent here. Had a lovely room with a view of the gardens. Also had a wonderful bathrrom with a hugh soaking tub. I liked his hotel so much that I changed my plans so that we could stay our final night in... more

If you are saving up for that one special night (or are wealthy enough to spend for several!), then staying on the grounds of Kilkenny Castle may be what you're looking for. Butler House is a gorgeous place to stay, and we were fortunate enough to have a suite overlooking the gardens. Decadent luxury is the only way to describe... more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Butler House. The room and bath were beautiful and had a gorgeous view of the grounds and castle. The beds were very good and the breakfast at the design centre was delightful. Maeve (concierge) was welcoming and helpful. I would gladly stay there again although in comparison it did lack the really personal... more

We stayed at the Butler for only one night. The room was very large and clean with lots of natural sunlight. The breakfast that was included with the room cost was very good. It is served in an arts and crafts center this is a short walk from the Butler through the beautifully manicured garden. The staff we encountered were... more
