Place needs a big renovation and the attitude of the staff leaves a lot to be desired! That said bed was new and clean and room was passable. Fine if in a stag party group as you will be spending little time there but if considering it as a hostel there appeared to be much better choices in kilkenny

My boyfriend and I were traveling around Ireland and staying mostly in dorm-style hostels, so we were excited to stay in a private room for two nights (after having great experience with a private room in a hostel in Connemara). To start with, the hostel was hard to find because all of the signs said "hotel," and one of the... More

I booked into a private double room with a friend for the night. When checking in, one of the first questions I was asked was if we were having showers, when I replied yes the manger sighed and then spent 3 minutes explaining how to get the water in the shower hot!! Not a great start when something as basic... More

The reception is the pub’s counter. If you go to Kilkenny to party all night, this is the place to go. If you want to sleep more than 3 hours, go somewhere else. We didn’t mind booking a room above a pub as we had no intention of going to bed early but we didn’t realise the party was going... More

I left a review here a short time ago about staying in this "hostel" and booking a female only dorm, one jn which on our return on the 2nd night was occupied by three men! I was guaranteed a refund from the owner and never received it. I still ring to this day with no success. I wouldnt recommend that... More

I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Pay the extra few quid to stay somewhere where you don't feel uncomfortable. When we arrived at 4pm our room wasn't ready which we didn't mind because we sat and had a nice drink to start the evening and the owner and bar staff seemed friendly at the time. Then when it... The rooms weren't ready for check in until 6 pm. We had to pay a deposit which I have no issues paying but would be nice to know at time of booking. The room had no light bulb when we got there. The wallpaper was hanging off the walls. The floor wasnt swept. No bed sheets on some of the... More

If you're looking for the Irish experience, this is the place to go. The rooms are clean, but not clinical. The owner is great guy, very helpful and witty. The bar had a band playing in session while we were there, and the mood was great. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone going to Kilkenny with the intention... More

We spent one night at the Metropole in Kilkenny. This place is a "dump". It is actually a hostile, although we were in a private room. The room was bare of anything other than a small bed. Paint was peeling off the walls and there was hair in the bath tub. When we arrived there was no heat in the... More

When myself and my friends arrived the manager and owner was EXTREMELY rude and ignorant! There were another group of guests there at the same time in which he seemed to treat as he should have us but didnt! We stayed there for 2 nights unfortunately and we booked a FEMALE ONLY dorm and payed a little extra for the... More
