If you're looking for the Irish experience, this is the place to go. The rooms are clean, but not clinical. The owner is great guy, very helpful and witty. The bar had a band playing in session while we were there, and the mood was great. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone going to Kilkenny with the intention... More

We spent one night at the Metropole in Kilkenny. This place is a "dump". It is actually a hostile, although we were in a private room. The room was bare of anything other than a small bed. Paint was peeling off the walls and there was hair in the bath tub. When we arrived there was no heat in the... More

When myself and my friends arrived the manager and owner was EXTREMELY rude and ignorant! There were another group of guests there at the same time in which he seemed to treat as he should have us but didnt! We stayed there for 2 nights unfortunately and we booked a FEMALE ONLY dorm and payed a little extra for the... More

Firstly, I'd like to say that we were on a stag and it is suitable for 25 lads away on a drink fuelled weekend and it was in a good location in the centre of town but that is probably about the only positive I could say about this place as accommodation goes. I stay in hostels when I travel... More

We stayed one night at Metropole. We saw the first three reviews and assumed it would be decent. Our room had no heat. We were told it would come on after 7. It was freezing! We had to go down to the bar to warm up. They said everyone took showers at once and therefore the heat wouldn't work. It... More

The Metropole was, hands down, one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Not only were the rooms clean (and affordable), but the customer service was top of the line. The owner, Ceartan, was lovely. He took time out to help me plan my travels (I was traveling alone), and answered any questions that I needed throughout my stay.... More

A friend and I went to the bar for a few drinks and we seen there was a trad irish session on which was great. We did not stay overnight however the staff in the bar are to be highly commended. Very pleasant, polite and service with a smile.

We stayed in the metropole for two nights. As it wasn't during the season we got a pretty good offer for the three of us. We had a bathroom en suite. It surely wasn't the most modern accommodation we stayed in, but it was very clean. Down at the bar there was a very nice barkeeper, who turned out to... More

The standards are like a hostel, well what you pay is what you get. Rooms are small, beds way too soft with old school mattresses... There's a pub downstairs which serves as a checkin place as well. They serve you complimentary toast with butter, jam and coffee/tea in the morning. It's located on the main street. At the end it... More

This hotel is more of a hoStel standard, so if you expect hotel rooms, you won't find it here. But the rooms are ok standard considering the cheap prices. Stayed for two nights. Fairly clean and the staff was service minded and cheerful. You get a code for your room and The front door (no curfue).
