The Carraig Rua was a good place to stay but not exceptional or extraordinary in any way. We would recommend it for anyone who wants to spend most of their time in the town of Kilkenny. We were referred to Carraig Rua by the proprietor of the Dunromin B&B which was booked. We were in Kilkenny on an Arts Festival... more
Very close to train/bus station if you are not driving. Room was OK, but no coffee/tea makers in room. Large shopping center nearby but a little walk to the Castle and downtown. Owner gave us a map and good directions. more
Our email booking confirmation stated that check in was at 3pm It also stated that if you expected to arrive after 3pm to let the house know. We took the opportunity while in Kilkenny to visit good friends that we hadn't seen in 9 years or so, who lived an hour away. At around 3pm while en route from Dublin... more
Carriag Rua was exactly what we were looking for -- a clean not ridiculously-priced B&B with parking and within walking distance (8 minutes) to down. We had a great day in town and a quiet night's sleep and a wonderful breakfast. We were traveling with a 9-year old and two teenagers and felt perfectly welcome. more
Our one night stay at the Carraig Rua was very nice. The location of the B&B could not be beat. It was only about a 10 minute walk to the castle and 5 minute walk to bars and restaurants. The B&B was clean and simple with a homey feel. The breakfast was good and reminded us something that a grandma... more
My stay was average. One person posted about the shower not having a soap dish or shelf. This was true in my case, as well as the shower door being broke and not able to close. I wasn't offered an ironing board when I asked for an iron. Had to improvise. But I found that most B&Bs in Ireland didn't... more
This B&B was everything that we were looking for. Tripadvisor comments helped us choose. We had a car loaded and wanted off road parking. We wanted an easy walk to Kilkenny centre. We wanted en-suite and reasonable price. Killkenny is a lovely historic town, and seems a popular city with lots of accommodation choices, city hotels are priced at the... more
Stayed here 9/17/07. Good size rooms. We had two rooms with a double and twin each. Good size bathroom but no shelf or soapdish in our room. (It looked like it had been snapped off in our room) The other room had a soapdish and shelf. It had private parking. We were requested to reconfirm 4 days before our arrival... more
Stayed with 6 adult children and was very pleased. Oonagh was so wonderful. Full of information on where and where not to go. The Irish breakfast was just wonderful. She had just about anything else you would want to eat for breakfast also. Her scones were the best rated by my family (as we were giving other 'b&b's scores along... more
