We enjoyed our stay at Alcantra. Liam had a family obligation that took him out of town but he came back from Dublin for the one night just for us. The rooms are beautiful and immaculate. Brigid didn't come back from Dublin so we didn't get a chance to meet her but Liam was a great host. And his breakfast... more

August 6th 2008 We just had to write to tell you about this brilliant Bed & Breakfast with a brillaint hostess ~ what a find !! Brigid, the hostess, is so welcoming, greeting us with a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits in her lovely sunny conservatory. She gave us a map of Kilkenny, and had time to sit with us,... more

This was the best B&B we stayed at during our two week trip through Ireland. The room was spacious and comfortable, Brigid was extremely helpful, and the breakfast was fantastic - the freshly squeezed orange juice and scones were wonderful. The only slight drawback was the walking distance to town (a little difficult for me being both pregnant and jetlagged). more

This b&b was one of my favourites during my recent trip to Ireland and the main reason why i liked it was because of the warm hospitality shown to me by the owners. Located within walking distance of the heart of Kilkenny, this 2 storey house has lovely light coloured decor, plenty of space in the room and in the... more

My friend and I stayed at Alcantra for two nights at the end of April. The owners, Liam and Brigid, welcomed us on our arrival. Our room was big, bright, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Liam asked us what we would like for breakfast the following morning and what time we would like to eat. They were very obliging with... more

I arranged a one night stay over email with Liam and Brigid Holohan, the proprietors of Alcantra. The booking was very efficient. When I arrived I had a welcoming cup of coffee in the conservatory. My room was tastefully decorated with an en-suite shower, the bed was very comfy and the house was lovely and warm. Breakfast was lovely, with... more

Our February visit was in the off-season, but the chilly weather was balanced by the warm welcome at Alcantra. Bridget even turned on the electric blanket for my husband and me so the bed was toasty when we returned home from dinner out. Even though the kitchen was being renovated during our stay, Bridget went out of her way to... more

My husband and I stayed at Alcantra B&B during our July 2007 two week visit to Ireland. It was our first stop in the countryside after staying in Dublin for a few days. Brigid, the host, is a sweetheart. She is very helpful with regard to things to do in Kilkenny, makes the most delicious breakfasts, and is just overall... more

We spent 2 nights at Alcantra and had a lovely stay. The rooms were large and spotless. Our breakfasts were wonderful. We liked the location because, while close to town, it was not noisy like in town B&Bs. more

A wonderful, homey place with amazing food. The owners are brilliant - smart, helpful, nice. Their home is lovely. We felt incredibly welcome, as though we had known them for years. The homemade sodabread scones were out of this world wonderful! My husband and I deemed it as one of the best places we stayed on our two week trip.... more
