Well..... it was the weekend of the Smithwicks Cat Laughs Festival so I suppose everywhere decent was booked up early. I suppose in retrospect this is always a bit of indicator - ie anywhere left is 2nd or 3rd rate. If you have every seen Faulty Towers, then this is the same but without Mr Fawlty and Manuel. In fact... more

This was a very clean and reliable b&b about a 10 minute walk from downtown Kilkenny. We did not spend too much time here, but wanted to mention two things.... The room was extremely warm upon arrival. We opened windows and turned off the heat and it did not matter as it stayed very warm all night (even in October).... more

We booked the Lacken House last April for our trip in September. While it is a nice guesthouse, we were very disapointed to find that it has been sold and the new owner is going to convert it into his office space. This meant that the restaurant has been closed and that the hotel itself is not being run up... more

We were given a warm welcome on arrival, though were a little disappointed to find that there is no longer an evening restaurant (despite all the awards being on prominent display). We'd booked a family room for ourselves and two daughters. We had a good recommendation from Jackie for a restaurant that evening and returned back to the hotel round... more

We stayed at the Lacken House for the last two nights of our visit to Ireland this June. We found the rooms to be lovely, the breakfasts worth getting up for, and the hosts to be more helpful, accomodating and pleasant than you could imagine. Altogether a great place to stay in Kilkenny. more

Such a joy to find somewhere you feel really welcome, where you are given warm friendly service which excels any expectations. Thanks to Trevor and Jackie for steering us in the right direction for the rest of our holiday...nowhere quite matched up to you guys though. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, a breakfast banquet...dont eat the night before or you wont... more

Lacken House is a great, stately home with large, clean, beautifully furnished, comfortable, quiet rooms, a great restaurant (yes, the breakfast was world-class) and with friendly and helpful proprietors. We enjoyed our stay. A couple of pointers for guests: 1. The home is a bit further from town than my family was comfortable walking; so we drove into town each... more

My father took us on a trip to Ireland and we stayed at Lacken House. It was beautiful, it was like a home away from home. The rooms were quaint, the decor was lovely...an older home. Trevor and Jackie were wonderful hosts, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand...taking us into town, giving directions or telling us the... more

I recently stayed at the Lacken house in kilkenny and the rooms were far superior to any other accomodation we had throughout our trip. Unfortunately they are taking a break from their restaurant at the moment but if the breakfasts are anything to go by then we sure missed out! My devilled kidneys on toast were gorgeous whilst the home... more

The inn is a very nice older house at the edge of kilkenny...a nice walk to town. The owners and staff are lovely hosts. The rooms are quite nice. The breakfast was great. Unfortunately the restaurant was temporarily closed while we were there, but is is reputed to be among the best in Kilkenny. We ate at Rinuccini...an acclaimed Michelin... more
