Stayed here in October 2006 en route to a concert. While the hotel is a little old fashioned compared to many Dublin hotels and a good bit out of the city, its pleasant and nice. I have stayed in the montrose on at least 5 occasions now. that speaks for itself!! I like this hotel while a little old style if offers good value. It's right next to UCD -- you can walk across the street to campus. But that means that there isn't much else around, so if you want to go out for lunch or coffee, it's a schlep. We stayed here for 1 night only and it was long enough. The rooms are very standard and clean. The staff are so unfriendly they made us feel so unwelcome. Brakfast (for a vegetarian) was limited, but the soda bread was excellent. Dinner and lunch were both excellent (though, again, limited for vegetarians). The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The only catch is its distance from Dublin Centre (it's opposite University College, well to the south of the city). more

I and four others stayed here for one night whilst attending a seminar at UCD and whilst the hotel could benefit from a facelift, it is a still good value.
