Booked 2 double rooms as staying 2 nites with husband, mother and 3 children. Rooms very disappointing indeed - dirty, sticky carpeting throught, nicotine smell pervaded whole room. Outer quilt on beds smelt of greasy mens' hair and did not appear to have been washed in some time. Grubby, tired bathrooms and very poor tv reception. Staff surly to say... more

My wife and i stayed at the Abbey on a 5 day trip with National Holidays. It was during St Patricks Day so we expected a lively time, and yes that is what we got. The hotel was the centre of the town and was full of locals at night as there was 4 bars and 2 night clubs inside. We... more

I just showd up a Friday morning, and ask for a single room for one night. They said their special Friday offer is 60 euros, and I accept it straight away,as I was really tired to look around for a room, and location of the hotel is perfect. At first I thought it's pricey, but no,it was great value for money. My room... more

Our room was spacious with very smart furniture & a lovely bathroom. We had a beautiful view down the river. Our shower wasn't working properly on arrival & they fixed it immediately. The staff were very hard working & gave an excellent service. We went for St Patrick's Day celebrations so didn't expect it to be quiet. Instead of trying... more

Lovely hotel - we had a great weekend here. I was prepared for worse, to be honest when we arrived after reading the reviews, and I could wholeheartedly agree with most of the comments - I guess it depends on the purpose of the weekend as to how these would bother you. The parking is indeed a good stroll away... more

Stayed at the Abbey Hotel Donnegal for four nights. The room smelled of nicotine. The light fittings were broken. The bathroom had faeces on the fittings. The beds had seen better days and were lousy - bed bugs. Noise from drunken youths and buses/taxis pulling up outside kept us awake all night till 4 am. The TV reception was terrible.... more

Difficult to rate this hotel. You could have a great time or a miserable time depending on when you stay and what room you're in. Read the 'poor' reviews carefully as many of the complaints are justified. This is a really busy, touristy hotel with coaches as well as locals using its bars and facilities. So many people to cater for makes... more

THE Abbey sums up pretty much everything that is wrong with Irish hotels. We booked in for a friend's wedding which was held on a Saturday. The first problem was that the car park is actually a good 200 yard walk away from the hotel. This wasa major problem as we had suitcases to carry plus our baby - not... more
