I was quite suprised by some earlier reviews as this is the cleanest b&b I've ever resided in - the room was spotless and the bathroom pristine! Location is great obviously, but no noise from the train station nearby. Host is extremely friendly and passionate about his job, Cork town and Ireland in general. Lovely breakfast, very pleasant stay.

Excellent choices for breakfast each day and freshly cooked to order, the full Irish breakfast will last you all day! Comfortable room all the basics covered. Gerry's two helpers, Lacey and Ursula were friendly and efficient. Towels changed daily. We used the train several times and it couldn't have been easier, the bus stop in the station yard was very... This guy is a horrible human being. First my girlfriend was a bit sick so he said no one is allowed in the place sick, finally convinced him to let us stay since we didnt have any where else to go, then i was on the phone around 11 to let her mother know what was going on then he... More

I have read a couple of reviews about how mean or cranky Jerry is. Sure at first I was worried but I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming and accommodating he was. We actually showed up pretty late in the evening and he didn't seem to mind at all. The place is located in a part of town with lots... More

I have read some other reviews which said Jerry was rude. It's true. Jerry is rude, but rude like your beloved cranky old uncle is rude. I have stayed in bed and breakfasts and hostels all over, and I have to say Jerry is one of the most memorable hosts I've had. He also keeps a nice, clean, safe place.... More

This B&B was our least favorite of the four we stayed at on our recent trip to Ireland. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable but it's dated (yes, I get the house is over 100 years old) - the house is actually leaning and you have to watch you don't trip and fall with your luggage when... We arrived at Number Forty Eight a little too early and when Jerry the host answered the door the initial feeling was that we were intruding however after about 30 seconds we realized he was the most charming b&b host we had met on our trip. He not only let us leave our things in the room (that wasn't ready... More

One of the worst places I've ever stayed. Owner was (overly) helpful at first, however when me and a friend ordered food to be delivered at 11pm we rang reception to inform the owner, we were greeted by "do you realise what time it is? Do not call me again" in one of the most disgusting tones I've ever came... More

Oh my goodness, what an unpleasant experience, and on my birthday no less. We arrived to a very surly reception by our host, Mr. Jerry Spillane (who by the way, never introduced himself). He initially seemed perturbed that we were too impatient waiting for him to come to the door. Next, he indicated that we had booked two rooms for... More

Unfortunately, our room was a bit small and outdated. We also had to sleep in separate beds, as our room had two twin beds in it and the one closest to the window was on a major slope so if you weren't careful, you would roll right out of it! But Gerrys service made the stay worth it. He was... More
