We booked into the restaurant for the evening and had a very good meal. The locally sourced produce was very tasty and we were looked after very well by a well drilled team. They were happy for us to have a sniff of the local malts before choosing one and it made the evening. As did happily shared local knowledge... More

My son and I stayed here about 10 years ago when on Islay on business. My wife has always been keen to visit Islay and this year thanks to CalMac's Island Hopscotch ticket we could do Arran,Islay, Colonsay ending up in Oban. Bridgend Hotel was our first choice. Unfortunately due to the Islay show we could only stay one night... More

We enjoyed a very pretty room but the facilities were basic ( no iron or board and quite an old fashioned bathroom). Rather expensive compared to other places we have stayed in Scotland. We ate at the hotel on two evenings. The food was fine but nothing exceptional. Service haphazard although everyone is friendly. Breakfast is pleasant if rather slow... More

I have written separately to this reviewer as there are a number of points that need clarification - needless to say there is a difference of opinion. Bridgend Hotel is a 3* hotel, aiming to produce the best of Islay produce; we have to work with greater costs caused by living on an island but I hope that we more... More

We stopped over on Islay for a day while on our honeymoon and it was amazing! The hotel is beautiful, the staff is super nice and Lorna gave us absolutely the best ideas for our day exploring. Breakfast might have been the best I've ever had, and Lorna made sure we felt right at home at dinner. 10/10 will do... More

We don't always hit the spot - as some of the reviews of the restaurant point out - but we do try. So it is really gratifying when we get it right. Lorna really enjoyed having you to stay and we all wish the very best for the future. Thank you for the review and come back soon! More

A huge thankyou again to Lorna and the staff at the Bridgend for making us so welcome last weekend. The Bridgend is like a home from home on the lovely island of Islay and I could not consider staying anywhere else, it's simply the best hotel on Islay. Great food, tastefully boutique rooms and beautiful gardens. The staff really go... More

We first encountered Bridgend Hotel in March when we left it a bit late for lunch on a sunny afternoon and bumped into Lorna outside the hotel. She suggested getting some filled rolls from Jimmy's and a cake from the lounge to enjoy in the sunshine which we duly did. This time, on a short visit to Islay, we popped... More

Apologies for the delay in reviewing our stay. It's been a busy couple of months. The Bridgend Islay was absolutely fantastic. We loved everything about the place. Location, rooms, ambiance and of course the food. Lorna is a fantastic hostess and her passion for the hotel and Islay is apparent. Nothing is too much trouble. She made us feel like... More

From our point of view it was Casper who was the star attraction. We love well behaved dogs, particularly those with character. I have mentioned in a previous post that we prefer them not to yap constantly and sit on your knee - not that Casper was guilty of this, it just helps set the ground rules. Islay is a... More

We had lunch here and it was superb. The place and setting is lovely and we were shown around by the manageress. Food was stunning and a definite must visit place on Islay. The gardens are beautiful too and sitting in the sun having lunch was perfect.

Thank you for such a lovely comment. When the sun shines on Islay - as it has done quite a bit this year - there is nowhere more beautiful in the world. It has a certain charm when it's raining too... Please do come and visit us - we have seating in Katie's Bar, the restaurant and the garden -... More

It started with the lady who took our orders - quick, efficient and friendly. The oysters seemed obligatory having seen them harvested earlier and were wonderful. The venison was good, though the sea bass dish could have been more substantial. The poached pears with the chocolate fondant were really different and tasty. The strawberries and meringue disappeared..,

There are several other good restaurants on Islay so I hope that anyone reading this doesn't get the wrong impression of the island. Of course we like to think that we are the best, however subjective a view this may be!! Thank you for this review - we do try to produce a consistently high level of service and Lorna... More

Thank you for such a glowing review. I am so glad that you enjoyed the festival – the weather helped enormously. Whilst I repeatedly say that Bridgend is a great place to see Islay from, we already have a number of bookings for next year’s whisky festival so don’t hang around because we will fill up quickly. Or come another... More
