My brother and I spend 2 nights and found our room large, with a nicely appointed bath. Furnishings were more than adequate and comfortable. It was a chore to haul our luggage up a flight of stairs, through a heavy door and down 2 corridors. The guests' bar was comfortable and roomy, with an excellent variety of Scotch whisky (there... more

My wife and I are very experienced travelers and we found our stay at Bridgend Hotel on Islay a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Although the rooms are quaint and comfortable, they are rather overpriced for the simplicity of what you get. The meals are quite good but the dining room has the atmosphere of an undertaker's salon. However, the worst of... more

The guests who wrote this review stayed at Bridgend on 6th and 7th August 2008. They decided as they arrived that they wished to cancel two of the three nights - almost before seeing the room. They suggested that they were acquainted with the owners - but when they met any pretence of acquaintance disappeared. They drank their own drinks...

The Bridgend Hotel in Islay is pleasant enough but it is hardly in the sort of luxury category that would justify charging £120 per night for a double room and £70 for a single. During our visit in August 2008 we decided to shorten our stay and gave notice of this on arrival --which appeared to have been accepted in... more

A hotel to be recommended. Very nice rooms and a lovely atmosphere. Excellent food both breakfast and dinner. Please note that there is almost nothing to do in Bridgend but it is very centrally located on Islay more

The location of the Bridgend hotel was perfect for the distillery tours we took on Islay. We spent 2 nights there, after arriving on the ferry in Port Askaig. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from the ferry, within easy driving distance of Kilchoman (new distillery), Bruichladdich, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, and Bowmore. During our stay, we also took a... more

My wife and I spend 3 nights at the Bridgend hotel. The hotel is near the centre of the island but there is not much else in the area, a supermarket and bowling green. The accomodation was clean and tidy and the room, although not large, was adequate. The food (both breakfast and dinner) was very good, a fair choice... more

We stopped in at The Bridgend Hotel for lunch one gray day in May whilst we were staying on Islay. The hotel couldn't have been more different than the weather outside. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely blonde lady behind the bar, and the general atmosphere amongst the staff and customers was inviting and convivial, with lots of humour... more

We booked by phone a half price weekend package available in October. Our room (3) was large and comfortable with a private bathroom The hotel is centrally placed in Islay near Loch Indaal, one of the main roosting spots for Barnacle Geese. The staff were helpful and pleasant and we were allowed to keep our room free of charge until... more

Food was very good and varied and you can eat in the cosy bar (log fire) or the very large dining room (where you also take breakfast). Room we had was in front but the road very quiet at night except for the occasional geese flurry - which was one reason we were there, so no complaints! My wife does... more

I have often stayed at the Bridgend Hotel on business trips to Islay and always had good service. All the rooms that I have been in have been fine. The dining room is a bit and bare but I always eat in the bar which is cosy and warm with a open fire usually. Food is always excellent. (If the... more
