We found the food fantastic, and the owner and his son (our only contacts were very helpful). All though we love whisky we planned nothing the owner suggested we do some tours, then went above and beyond to call up the distilleries and basically plan our day for us. That kind of service and help is amazing.

The food is very good at this place, not your typical bar food. This must be, why many locals are coming here. The service can be a bit on the grumpy side. Still, we had a good time here and would come back.

A very cold welcome and at the limit of being polite! We were shown to our room which had a dreadful smell of damp and humidity. The toilet was on the landing and shared with 2 other rooms. No explication was given on how to use the shower so we had no hot water. We didn't see any of the... More

Were advised this place for dinner by a nearby bnb. We found a lifeless ambience on a sunday evening. Yes the whisky colection is impressive but a rather nonchalant service from the bartender who could barely afford a smile started a rather drab and unexciting evening. The food took an hour... bread was 'forgotten'. They were not exactly busy. When... More

Party of 6 stayed for 4 nights and we had a great time. Particularly enjoyed the cooked breakfast, certainly sets you up for a bit of walking. Main meals were excellent every time, and the cheesecake was extremely popular. And what a whisky selection! Such a range, it takes a while to browse the whisky menu to find one to... More

This hotel and restaurant are fabulous. I stayed three nights there with a work colleague and can hand on heart say it is the best hotel I've stayed in in Scotland. The owner, David, and son Ewan do a brilliant job. They are not over-priced, but extremely competitive. The rooms were modern and clean, and the general decor just felt... More

We where just eating here, but the dinner where the best we had on the island. Local lamb with boiled potatoes (not fried) and freshly boiled vegetables. The bar had a great selection of both beer and whisky. The staff where very friendly and helpful.

We only eat here so can't comment on the sleeping side of things. We were lead to believe that despite the service being a bit hit and miss that the food was worth waiting for. Wrong on both accounts. Service for dreadfully slow (over an hour for food to arrive - even slow by my island time and the place... More

We were told by someone who comes from Islay that the Ballygrant Inn was the place to go. Don't get me wrong the food there is excellent. We had stopped off the day before for a drink and decided to eat the next night. Don't get me wrong the food was excellent. Sadly as someone mentioned before me both the... More

This is a delightful place to stay. The welcome is exceptionally warm and the food top notch, with David using the freshest of local ingredients, and preparing them with flair and care. I'm not a whisky drinker, but the others in my party most definitely are...they thought the bar and the selection were first class. Rooms are pristine and the... More
