This is a delightful place to stay. The welcome is exceptionally warm and the food top notch, with David using the freshest of local ingredients, and preparing them with flair and care. I'm not a whisky drinker, but the others in my party most definitely are...they thought the bar and the selection were first class. Rooms are pristine and the... More

Ballygrant Inn is not in one of the larger villages on Islay. But that doesn't matter, because the island is small and everything is close. The inn is the perfect basecamp for exploring the island. The rooms are nice, the breakfast is good, the hosts are welcoming. But most of all, there is the perfect bar and restaurant. You can... More

A great little pub in the middle of Islay far from the madding crowd. Dave and Ewan really looked after us well. Food is nothing short of brilliant. The local scallops with a Bowmore whiskey sauce were awesome as was the pork liver pate. Make sure that you order the cooked breakfast - food to prepare you for the rigors... More

Rooms are very nice and clean with comfortable beds. We ate dinner here as well. Dinner was AMAZING and the dessert was even better! They also have a very extensive whiskey collection to choose from as well. I also feel that they went above and beyond for us. When they asked what we'd like for breakfast in the morning, I... More

Mostly positively surprised. The rooms and the food were better than anticipated. The whisky selection is greater than what is seen online (online list is very long too). I found many new drams that I learned to like. Had to buy a few bottles in the villages. I enjoyed my stay here and can recommend this Inn. The only downside... More

The setting of the inn is lovely and convenient for touring the island and departing by ferry. The rooms are fairly basic, but completely comfortable (and quiet). We only used the room for sleeping, since we enjoyed relaxing by the fire in the lounge, with the friendly cat. David Graham is a wonderful host: a fabulous cook (both for the... More

The dining room is well set out, overlooking a pretty garden with plenty of birds to watch. The service was very friendly, and the food was lovely. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly - lamb crackling, yummy - and the whisky cranachan cheesecake was light, fluffy, and had just the right amount of whisky and oats and plenty of raspberries.... We stayed for two nights whilst doing a 5-day cycle tour of Islay and Jura. We mainly chose it due to its close proximity to Port Askaig, so the cycle ride from the evening ferry would be fairly short. We arrived to a great meal in the bar. To be honest I wasn't expecting to see too many vegetables over... More

While on a pleasure trip to try the whiskey's in Islay we made a reservation at the Ballygrant Inn. We were drawn to it by the advertised Malt menu. We arrived to a worn down place with laundry hanging off a line and a surly young man as receptionist. Unwelcoming at best, and much like the Bates motel. It was... More

Two nights spent in a triple room. David and Ewan are to be congratulated for providing an excellent inn and restaurant. We arrived around 8:30 off the late ferry and expected a bar meal of cid and chips. Instead we ate lamb, pork with the most amazing mustard and whisky sauce and baked salmon. All were delicious. They were then... More
