My husband and I had two nights to spend on Islay. Carole and Barry made us very welcome at Ayen cottage. The room was very comfortable and easy for me to get around in. The breakfasts were fantastic and filling enough to get us through until dinner with only a light snack in the afternoon. They were also able to... More

The only points stopping us from rating this excellent is that the wash-basin was too small and the shower inconsistent. EVERYTHING ELSE was excellent and the owners very helpful and friendly. The location is good for all places. Near Port Askaig Ferry but not far from Port Ellen.

We stayed at Ayen Cottage whilst visiting the island to attend a wedding. We were made so welcome by Carole and Barry and were sorry to leave after 4 nights stay. The room was great and exceptionally clean. Really comfortable beds. Plenty of room, TV with freeview if we wanted it. A tray in the room with kettle, tea &... More

We spent 2 nights at Ayen Cottage, the bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious (staying 2 nights meant we could try several breakfast permutations - all great!) It was our first time on Islay and Carol's knowledge, together with the guides and the map on the wall meant that we could make the most of our... More

We had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed Islay. Carole was passionate about Islay and had great tips about where to visit. We loved the hot breakfasts in the morning with all the Scottish favorites like Haggis, blood pudding, and fruit pudding, as well as eggs, bacon, and sausages. We had a nice room with a private bathroom and a... More

We had a fantastic welcome from Carole and Barry and really enjoyed the snacks provided on arrival. As we didn't have a car, Carole had provided us with really helpful information on public transport and local taxi services, so it was no problem to find the cottage. Our hosts were more than happy to share their detailed knowledge of the... More

Carole and Barry took us in at the last minute and quickly made us feel at home. The accommodation was excellent and although we did not have en-suite facilities - our private bathroom was across the corridor - this was not a problem. Carole is an excellent maker of breakfast and very kindly made me a beautifully presented small cooked... More

We returned three years after our first stay and everything was as fantastic as we remembered. The breakfast is delicious, you have plenty space and Carole and Barry are wonderfull hosts. Hopefully it won't take another three years until we're back!

We wanted to find a nice place for our Danish friends who hadn't stayed in a B&B before. We were not disappointed! Ayen cottage is 10 minutes drive from the Ferry terminal. Carole was welcoming and informative. She had even booked a tour for us at the Kilmochan Distillery. Their room was comfortable and breakfast great. We would definitely be... More
