I spent a wonderful four days and nights in the delightful Iona hostel Shephards Bothy. The bothy interior is lovely, cosy bed, small rattan chair and table, lovely plaid blankets and a small dresser. The furnishings and decor are lovely and its clear that a lot of thought (and excellent taste) has gone into creating every aspect of this delightful,... More

Iona hostel sits in an idyllic spot, close to a beautiful beach and surrounded by birdsong (including corncrakes). Facilities inside are excellent, with a good self catering kitchen, window seats with views, a well-stocked bookshelf, comfortable beds and good showers - and it's all Eco-friendly. The hostel is about 1 mile's walk from the ferry, and a half mile from... More

I truly enjoyed my stay! Friendly athmosphere and very helpful staff. High standard regarding the cleaning, I appreciated the use of organic cleaning products! Well equiped kitchen, well organized. Breathtaking view of the Atlantic and lots of rainbows! Cosy sofas next to a great selection of books! Lovely sheep outside window making picture of paradise complete. I'll be back!

I stayed at the hostel for 5 days from 21 May 2014 and slept in the four bedded room 2. Location stunning, friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, fresh wild flowers on the table, amazing sea views and sunsets, corncrake singing and pottering about just outside the window, very warm, cosy kitchen/living room with wonderful artifacts and well chosen library, never... We stayed overnight in the Shepherds Bothy an idyllic retreat with lovely views and sounds of birds including corncrakes around us. Very comfortable & cosy nights sleep. Hostel immaculate, well organised with friendly, helpful staff. Many Thanks to Petri for looking after us so well during our stay. Thanks K & S P.S. The beaches nearby are fab.

Iona hostel is a beautiful retreat venue, and the care, love and attention to detail from John and the staff allows the hostel to flower into a sacred space for sharing and connection. From fresh wild flowers in jars, to the homely farmhouse table, and windows that frame beautiful sunsets over stunning ocean views, it is a home away from... More

This was a fantastic hostel , amazing setting , very well equipped , John helpful and friendly - loved the extra touches of poems in unexpected places and gentle reminders to tred carefully on planet earth and oh what a beach and what an island - a special place where the veil between heaven and earth wears thin!

I visited with some of my postgrad friends for a winter getaway last year. It was one of the most peaceful experiences of my life. The beds are soft and clean, the sound of the surf is soothing at night, and the little wooden stove kept us all cozy in the living room. We made a dinner feast for our... More

Extraordinary location. Excellent facilities. Exhilarating beach walks. If anything, Scotland is even more beautiful in the so-called low season. The hostel was clean and fresh, with comfortable beds, plenty of bathrooms and lots of hot water. I was there with a private group for a course and it was an ideal set up. Cozy fire going in the main room... More

The enormous wooden table in the hostel's warm, spacious main room, with views out to sea, was the ideal place to teach a driftwood bookbinding workshop. Taking over the hostel for four nights meant total immersion in our creativity. The staff were patient, helpful and the most generous critics of our art work. The cooking facilities are great for large... More
