I don't know how to describe the warm and welcoming feeling that I had when we got to this place. The people were very friendly, great decor of the house (especially kitchen and 'hang out' part of the house), VERY clean, LOVED the eco concept and I just wish I could stay for like a month cause it was such... It may look like a shed but that is further from the truth you can imagine. Once inside the place is very special; it is warm, facilities are clean and it is well equipped. We stayed for two night during storms in March in the two bedded room and had a fantastic time. John and Mark were very helpful checking... More

I stayed last week for 4 nights in the hostel and then 3 nights in the Shepherds Bothy. John, the hostel owner, gives a warm welcome to guests and Mark, Lionel and Audey, the resident hostel volunteers further ensure a friendly stay. Hostel is spotless, plenty of hot water, fridge and storage space allocated, sea views and log fire burner... More

I spent a few days in this hostel and it was a very nice experience! The hostel was amazing! Big rooms, clean, and very friendly staff who made sure you are always comfortable. Its at a small distance from a beach of cristaline waters and amazing colours. I would totally reccommend a visit and would love to return some day!

The Iona Hostel is a particularly magical place on a magical island. This is the first time I've been to the Western Isles and I was blown away by the warm welcome from the island community and, notably, John the hostel owner. We went for Hogmanay so the weather was changeable but the hostel provided a metaphorical and literal cosy... More

This place is unrivalable. The hostel itself is nestled at the North end of Iona, with samples of the most startling Scottish beaches viewable from the common room couch. Sure there are some risks in heading this far north during the depths of winter but I've done it twice with not a single regret. It's actually pretty accessible in its... More

This hostel is in a tiny island hidden and very close to the ocean, and its the place to go if you want to find peace and enjoy nature at its best. The staff is very friendly and the rooms big and very clean, I really enjoyed the days i stayed. You can walk the whole island and then rest... More

Tucked away on the edge of the island, this little backpackers has a gorgeous view of the sea, a small farm, and herds of sheep. You can easily walk around the rest of the island and the abbey from there. The dorms were clean, and the kitchen was well-equipped. It has a quiet, communal atmosphere. Highly recommended!

My friend and I spent two nights in The Bothy on Iona on November 5th and 6th 2014. John kindly went out of his way and picked us up from the pier as we arrived on a late boat in the dark. Lovely quaint little Bothy with all creature comforts thought of. It was cosy and warm, beautifully decorated and... More

Definitely not like the hostels of my youth! Beautiful views of the ocean and steps from the beach. This place was very clean and quiet, with comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen and comfy lounge with books about the area read. A nice place to go to get away from the noise and bustle. I wish we had planned for more... More
