We awoke to a blaring fire alarm above our heads in our bedroom which sat above the kitchen at 5:00am. When I asked the restaurant manager at breakfast why this had happened his reply was, "It was due to burning toast, if it happens again ignore it". Outrageous. Asking guests to ignore a fire alarm in a hotel???? I suggested... More

Lunched there and it was fine. Pleasant service and a good cauliflower and cheese soup but nothing particularly startling. Reasonable cheese platter. It needs a little less formality and more warmth to maximize their position.

Dear Bob, I’m sorry you found us too formal and not very warm. Normally this is not something that we are charged with! Many thanks for taking the time to review us. More

My wife and I stayed three nights in June 2014. The bedroom was underwhelming - small to start with, and little storage space. The bathroom was inadequate. The "shower" was a set of pipes off the taps - inadequate temperature control, no headroom to stand up (sloping ceiling) and no shower curtain, so room apt to finish up wet after... More

Dear Les, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I would like to address your points. All of our rooms are small in comparison to modern hotels. The part of the building your room was in dates from the1860s and is not capable of being remodelled. I apologise that the room specifics were not made more clear... More

I have been to Iona 8 or 9 times, and each time, I stay at the Argyll. Where to start? With great views, fresh, organic food creatively prepared and presented, friendly staff, and quirky rooms, each with its own character, what's not to love? Lulled to sleep by the waves of the Sound of Iona, broken by the occasional cry... More

We stayed three nights in the Argyll Hotel on Iona in May 2014. It ticked all the boxes. Walking distance from the ferry, wonderful views, friendly service and excellent food. We had a very comfortable bedroom with a spa bath (great after climbing a mountain on Mull), books and a view across the water to Mull. The food was wonderful,... More

Stayed here for one night with wife and dog . Stunning location . Great sea views from quaint room . Fantastic garden , seating area overlooking white sandy beach and sea . Really cannot fault the service here , nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff . Private dinning area for ourselves and our dog !

Upon arrival to Iona, we were delighted to see the Argyll on the waterfront as the ferry pulled up to the wharf. This historic building has lots of charm, cozy lounges, great views, and a kitchen that offers fresh, top line food. Our room was quiet, had a nice garden view, featured a walk-in closet and had a comfy bed.... More

We are delighted that you had such a lovely stay! We do understand that the room is on the small side, and there are plans afoot in the next few years to rebuild that wing. Our garden is one of our passions, which we love to share with people and our Head Chef Richard is always thinking of new things... More

We recently stayed here for one night and had a lovely stay. Loved having an ocean view right out our window and all the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The comfy lounges at the front were a great place to chill and handy for seeing when the ferry arrived for the return trip. Our only negative was the food... More

I loved my stay here although it was only one night away from my group I was traveling with before I went over to the larger St. Columba Hotel. Good food, warm & friendly service and great views from rooms and dining areas. If you are traveling alone or as a couple, stay here. If you're in a group the... More

I was due to visit Iona thirty six years ago but was prevented from doing so. Finally made it last week for a stay at The Argyll Hotel. What can one say? This hotel punches so far above its weight that it is in a class and league of its own. The originality, class, style and attention to detail fit... More
