It's not easy to get to, but it's worth it. A 5 hour trek from Glasgow, Iona seems perched on the edge of the world. This hotel, one of two proper hotels on the small island, features small-ish rooms, appointed typically, and a nice restaurant where I took three meals (two dinners, one breakfast--all enjoyable). When I decided to extend... more

The Argyll is one of those exceptional places that is absolutely worth the splurge and you know you want to go back again. Set overlooking the ocean, the rooms are quaint, comfortable and cosy. The restaurant's food and wine was excellent even though the service was a bit scattered. After dinner it's a very short walk to the Abbey which... more

Quaint, old stone B&B in the village located on Iona. Small rooms but all essentials are adequately provided and everything is in working order, clean, and comfortable. Excellent food: only cereal breakfast is included in the price of a room, but a choice of typical Scottish breakfast choices are available at added cost. Dinning room is charming and service is... more

What an absolute gem! Visited the restaurant on two consecutive nights and had two of the best meals I've ever eaten. Fabulous service, I mean - FABULOUS. Polite, knowledgeable, just the right amount of formality, pitched perfectly. Small but excellent wine list (we sampled red and white). Small but brilliant menu with extra choices from a 'specials' board. Can thoroughly... more

A long way from home but worth the visit. Iona is spectacular enough but the food in the hotel was outstanding - a revelation. I can agree that maybe the bedrooms are a bit old-fashioned and tired but certainly ours was clean and it all added to the overall experience of staying on the island. The staff were attentive and... more

We were visiting Iona on Saturday 21st March whcih was a beautiful if cold day. The ferry back to Mull was at 6.15pm and we thought a cup of tea or coffee in the Argyll would tide us over unitl then. However we were told that tea was only served until 4 pm and that they then had to prepare... more

We are always happy to be judged by our levels of service; but it is also a case of those judgments being made fairly. We are but a small hotel, and we had been swamped with customers throughout the day to the extent that we had sold out of baked goods and used up most of our china. We therefore...

We stayed at the Argyll Hotel on Iona for 3 nights in June 2008. The food is 5 star, the staff are very friendly and it is an excellent place to stay. Iona is beautiful and if you get good weather, there is nowhere in the world better. more

We booked a double room for the long weekend, room very good, poor selection on offer on the menue, and not very helpfull with meal times, not very flexible with any time. We were given a fax of the price of £100.00 per night for the room, but when we left and came to pay our bill were charged £100.00... more

Having read some glowing reviews of this property which is rated "3 star small hotel" by the Scottish Tourist Board, perhaps we expected too much and perhaps, because September is getting towards the end of the tourist season, the young staff were feeling jaded and tired and anxious to get back to their families in South Africa and Australia and... more
