We stayed at the Castlebay for two nights as part of western isles holiday for our elderly mother in law. Despite late arrival of ferry we were given personal attention by manager who ensured that Mum was able to access the hotel through side entrance to avoid the steps at front. Hospitality and personal attention were hallmarks of our stay.... more
Our Ferry arrived in Castlebay, Barra at 8 PM and so we were happy to have a reservation at the Castlebay Hotel that was only minutes away. We had dinner reservations so we were able to go right to our table once we checked in. The food was all right. We were surprised that there wasn’t more fresh local fish... more
We staye for one night in July on our tour of the outer hebrides, our room overlooked the castle and was a great start point as it was only 100 yeards from the ferry. The room was a little old fashioned but very clean and with all mod cons. The food was upmarket pub grub well served with thoughtful staff.... more
My husband, teenage son and I had a most enjoyable and relaxing two nights here. The welcome and the service overall were just right - friendly but not over-bearing. We stayed here for one night on our tour of the Hebrides. The views from the bedroom were stunning looking out over the bay and the castle. We had an excellent evening meal and enjoyed a glass of malt in the very convivial lounge bar. more
The view from the sea view rooms here is so amazing !!! Worth staying for the view alone !! The room was clean neat and tidy. The pub below was noisy with the bedroom window open on a saturday night, but on closing the window the sound was completely eliminated. You could spend hours watching the view from the window... more
We were in Barra for 4 days at the start of June 07, stayed at the Castlebay Hotel for 3 nights on a DB&B basis. Room was old fashioned but clean and had a fabulous view over the bay. Food was good if slightly over priced - quite a few items were also unavailable (e.g smoked haddock at breakfast and... more
Rooms are somewhat basic with a dated 70's/80's look but clean and comfortable. But what about the view ! On a hillside overlooking Castlebay harbour and castle. Friendly reception, although not so easy to find, its basically a broom cupboard under the stairs ! Restaurant/bar area is much more classy and the breakfast was one of the best in the... more
