I was booked into this hotel with a tour group and having read the complaints was a bit apprehensive. It's rather random ("eccentric" said another group member) but I was relieved to find clean sheets, warm duvet, shower that was hot whenever I used it (though taped in position) and decent food (even good scrambled egg). Bonus points for lots... more

We have recently spent a couple of nights at this hotel and at £50 per person per night it was an appalling experience. Our bathroom had two pieces of paper left on the toilet roll and no spare so we had to ask for this at reception, as well as a bedside light to read by, as there was only... more

I had to stay at this Hotel recently as I was working in Uist - I had heard about it but cannot believe how bad it was in every aspect. The room was filthy, handful of coins found on a spare bed, sand on bathroom floor, bucket not emptied. In general the whole Hotel is entirely run down, the beds... more

Stayed here as I was working on the island and it was booked by the company. I thought my room was disgusting until I saw some of the dumps my work mates were put up in and I suddenly realised that mine was the best of a bad bunch! I soon realised that it was better to shower in the... more

I used to stay here on a weekly basis due to working on the islands, Thankfully my company paid for the accomodation which is less than sub standard. The rooms are noisy, cold and the decor is so old that antique doesnt come close. The staff in the kitchen should be running the hotel as their manner and attitude superceeds... more

What a dump! We stayed here for one night which was more than enough. Our room, supposedly deluxe, was far from my idea of deluxe. The bar was shabby and the food I would rate a poor pub grub, even though some of it was amazingly expensive. At breakfast I had the worst sausage I have ever had, it was... more

We stayed here for one night this week and I am glad it was only one night. They had four levels of accommodation ranging from economy to deluxe. Ours at £99 for a double room was rated as standard, one above economy. I am glad I didn't have a basic room, that's all I can say. The shower was the... more

I stayed here this year. My family's from Benbecula, but I had to go earlier than them and have always rated the hotel, but my god. I stayed three nights, paid £69 a night for the honour and it was awful. Room was shabby, shower was worse than useless. TV didn't work, and the food? £7 for a jacket potato... more

Sadly I can only agree with the other reviews of both poor service and accommodation. We stayed in the Dark Island Hotel in July 2006 during an island-hopping holiday with two young children. The Dark Island was unquestionably the poorest hotel we stayed in during that time, and it was the most expensive. We were put in a smoking room,... more
