Quiet, private, calm, and simply stunning location that has much to explore and has every luxury you could want. The grounds are gorgeous and the inside of the castle is a great mix of very old and modern. After reading about the castles 500 year old history I looked out the window to see a robotic lawn mower taking care of the grass. We found some nice fly fishing and many things to explore nearby, but walks along the deserted lanes and down to the river were great too. For example, the Slow Burn Trail (I think?) goes along an amazing series of small waterfalls before the creek joins the main river. Bring bug stuff for midges in the evenings or ticks if you walk off trail if you go out. We will stay again if ever back this way!

Room Tip: Ticks and midges are normal so bring some Deet if you will be out and about much.

We thought the cottage looked nice but from the moment we started the 2 mile drive down the forestry track from Aberfoyle we realised it was going to be something different. The setting is amazing, close to Aberfoyle but feels like you are miles from anywhere, Castle grounds are stunning, with large area to explore. Forests, streams, gardens, swings, a big river, hammock by the pond. The cottage is comfortable with a nice mix of country homely and modern. Great log burner with never ending supply of logs, modern kitchen and bathroom. The cottage garden has a tree house and swing & slide which was great but some garden furniture would be good though. Midges were full on aggressive in the evening - bring lots of repellent! There is lots to do in area around Aberfoyle but equally you could spend a week happily just in the grounds & a 5 mile radius. Really good proper mountain bike trails in hills around Aberfoyle too. Check trailforks app or speak to the helpful bike hire shop in the village. The final thing that made the holiday was the welcome provided by the owners. Amy and her husband Nikolai were staying in the main castle while we were there and they were very generous with their time and kind to our children. They were happy for the kids to visit the chickens, run wild round the gardens, chat to them at will. It all felt a bit Famous Five and with the kids feeling they had the run of their own castle and grounds meant that they will remember this for a a long time.

We were a group of 8, staying 3 nights on a self catering basis at Duchray Castle and could not have asked for better accommodation, it was absolutely beautiful. All 4 bedrooms are lovely, the castle was so cozy and welcoming arriving on a cold November day the open fires were all set up for us , just to be lit. The kitchen is so well equipped. The beds very comfy, all rooms en suite with lovely toiletries. We were there to celebrate a 60th birthday, the new owners left a beautiful birthday gift. Communication before our arrival was excellent. We cant recommend this place highly enough. We will be back!! Thankyou for a brilliant 3 nights

You can go here if you want to plug off the civilization. There is no phone signal, the internet is very poor, no tv. You have plenty of nature, birds singing, biting flies etc. The house is very comfortable and warm.

My husband and I got married in the summer here as he is from Glasgow. We decided to have a small ceremony at the castle, then the reception at Altskeith House nearby. I am American so my family and friends were fortunate to come over and stay a week for the wedding. Since we stayed at the house we didn't spend the night at the castle unfortunately. We currently live in the UAE so it was difficult to plan a wedding without actually being there, but Frances made it so much easier. Her laid back style made us feel comfortable from the minute we chose that as a venue. Our first impression of Frances came when we were in Scotland for a holiday and wanted to visit the castle 3 months prior to our wedding. She said she wasn't going to be there that week to let us in, but she knew the catering company we were using, and they could meet us there and show us around before our tasting. I was so afraid that we wouldn't be able to see it before our wedding when Frances first said she would be away, but it worked out perfectly. I really appreciate her figuring out a way for us to see it before our big day! We decided to have the ceremony inside the great hall and it was spectacular. The garden was so picturesque and I couldn't have asked for a better place to show off to my family. I know our perfect day would not have been so perfect if it weren't for Frances taking care of us so well. Definitely the right venue for a small wedding.

We got married here at the beginning of October. We couldn't have wished for a better place to get married. The castle and grounds were absolutely stunning. It's in a very private and quiet location which is just what we wanted for our intimate wedding of 7 people. Our guests also commented that we couldn't have found a better place to hold our ceremony. Frances was the perfect host-very organised and calm. She made everyone feel at ease and it felt like we were at home. As we only had 7 guests, we booked out the entire castle for everyone to stay for 2 nights. The rooms were immaculate, warm and very cosy. Everyone was so impressed. Although you can't put a price on the perfect wedding, the cost to hire out the whole castle, we felt was very reasonable and would have cost much more elsewhere. Each morning we came down to an amazing full Scottish breakfast. Anything we wanted, all we had to do was ask. Nothing was ever too much trouble. If you want to stay here for a special occasion or simply to just get away, you really won't be disappointed! Thank you Frances for making our day so special and perfect. We'll remember it for the rest of our lives. We hope to return soon!

We stayed at Duchray as a group of 6 adults and 3 children this weekend to celebrate a Ruby Wedding Anniversary. The castle and grounds are stunning, the rooms are all of a very high standard and breakfast was delicious! Frances and Oliver are so welcoming and accommodating and made our stay at Duchray everything we could have hoped for and more.

Fantastic venue, luxury, relaxed, classy and much more. We hired the venue for two nights in April 16 for our Wedding. The minute we seen it we feel in love, its really is something very special. The vaulted room is perfect for holding the ceremony and Frances put me at ease through the day. The rooms are beautifully done and finishing touches are perfect. Frances was helpful In the planning stages and more than happy to show out Photographer round the castle at a separate date. We used Regis catering at her suggestion and their were also spot on! LOVED everything about our special day just sad its all over :( I was concerned about the space as we had the top number of guests , I was worrying for absol nothing. More than enough space for everyone :) Thank you Frances Mrs Reilly x

Everything about this sumptuous B&B is first class... the spacious rooms, the classic hunting lodge sitting room, the superb food, the verdant estate and most of all, Frances herself. The forestry road is not that bad, the drive is just 10 minutes from town. Ate dinner at the Forth Inn near the Wool Center.
