This hotel is absolutely shocking!! We stayed in Aug 07 for 2 nights. We arrived to find the hotel looking crumbly and damp; on booking in we struggled to make ourselves understood as the staff on the reception desk spoke very little English. On inspection our room was tiny and damp, with rotting window frames, damp carpet and rusty toilet.... more
My wife and I were booked here as part of a motor coach tour. We were quite surprised that we would be staying in such a lovely spot considering we paid such a small amount for the tour. We found our room clean and comfortable, the food better than most Scottish fare. We did notice however that other guests, those... more
Our coach tour had the missfortune to be booked into this undesireable hotel as part of a packge tour including a visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo. On arrival our fitst impressions were of a very tired uncared for building, on entering the hotel I could detect a musty smell of damp and decay. Our Friday evening meal was as basic... more
A dissapointing short break. This property is needing thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom, the cleanliness of the bedrooms left a lot to be desired. The food wasnt much better with a limited menu, even for a hotel in the heart of scotland the bar didnt sell any decent whiskies that one would expect from the hostelries in this beautiful... more
From the moment we stepped through the doorway, our stay at the Covenanters Inn was perfect. The staff bent over backward to make our stay was restful and pleasurable. The NEW CHEF provided a wonderful choice of menus at both breakfast and dinner, our room was spacious and clean and the staff quietly asked what they could do to help... more
Hotel is a little tired and needs some TLC but is under new management who aim to improve it. Staff are very friendly and tried to put right any problems, in fact they went out of their way to help. Food could have been better but I was suited on my three day stay, I was in a party of... more

Despite the hardworking foreign waitresses, the dining experience left much to be desired. The food served to our coach party was tasteless, dried-up, and still frozen in parts! There was a £12.50 SURCHARGE for steak, the only edible option! Our room was cramped, furnishings worn out, and there was no hot water at all on our last morning, and the... more
We stayed here for a long weekend in October '05, a present from me to my other half for his 21st. Thought it would be nice to get away for a few days. I write this review as the others seem very extreme - either really bad or really good. To be fair the hotel is neither - the food... more
