Were on holiday in Ayr and the Chestnuts was recommended to us.The hotel was fully booked with folks attending the Open but we managed to get a table in the restaurant late on the Friday.Very good food and fair price £85 for 4 of us having 2 courses. My daughter (16) and her friend loved the place.Staff were very friendly and... more

There is something really nice about this hotel. There may be a few rough edges but the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff more than make up for them. The food was excellent and the bar, with its roaring log fire, was so cosy that we didn't want to leave. The hotel is also great value for money. We will definitely... more

On my visit to The Chestnuts the new owners had placed notes on the tables in the bar explaining that a major refurb would soon be under way and that things were being spruced up. The bar is very popular with non-residents as well as residents and its not difficult to see why. It is an attractive traditional bar, with... more

Although the hotel is due a refurbishment, it is warm, clean, welcoming, has great food and very friendly staff. it is 5 mins by car to the centre of Ayr and 2 mins to the beach. The rooms are not massive but they are very clean and tidy. The bathrooms are in need of upgrading, but for the money it... more

The room was tiny, tired, dated and shabby. The sleeping area of my single, en-suite room was 7 feet x 6 feet. It overlooked the service entry and restaurant back door, which was noisy with staff and deliveries. The fittings and furniture in the bedroom can only be described as primitive. The bathrooom was very old-fashioned and getting hot water... more

nice little hotel with great potential. It seems a new team has just taken over and starting to give the place a good dusting down. Restaurant is great, good food, fab breakfast. Room however is crammed miniature with sanitary installations dating from early 70's if lucky, old carpet, stained headboard. Not nice. Clean though. Very friendly & helpful young team... more

I stayed here with some friends visiting from England for two nights in January. The staff made us feel so welcome, and the bar with its open fire was so welcoming and comfortable. The restaurant was very modern, and the food superb. Although the rooms were a little dated the were clean, comfortable and very quiet during the night. I... more

I stay at the Chestnuts on business every 2/3 weeks, whilst I think the rooms are a litttle dated, I cannot agree with the previous review. The rooms are always clean, the staff friendly and attentive and the food excellent! more

After reading positive reviews here on Tripadvisor (and having gleaned further information from the hotel's own website) we decided to reserve two double rooms at the Chestnuts for our recent tour of Scotland. In hindsight, however, we wished we hadn't. Morever, based on our experience, the Chestnuts can only (best) be described as below average. Admittedly, our expectations had been... more

Have visited the Chestnuts hotel a few times and on every occassion the food is outstanding. Traditional bar with lovely fire, very welcoming, and the food really is first class. Service is always good too and everything very reasonably priced. Rooms are a bit old fashioned, but always clean. No complaints, would definitely recommend. more
