We used to frequent the Berkeley as a young couple & were dismayed over 8 years ago to return to find it derelict. What joy to recently discover that years of investment and dedicated TLC by Megan and her son Anderson, had rescued this fine building built in 1803. We just had to go and stay & boy what a fine... Visited this restaurant for an anniversary meal , we were not disappointed . I had scallops and black pudding to start delish, hubby had creamy mushroom which were also delish . We both opted for steak for main ribeye and sirloin both were cooked just as we liked and served with blue cheese sauce served separately in a dish the... More

Popped in here for a drink whilst in the area for business. Didn't stay or eat but wanted to comment on the initial appearance. Very friendly bar staff who was very attentive to the needs of those customers who were in to eat in the restaurant. He was the same with a couple of guests who were staying in the... More

I'd like to thank the staff and owner of the Berkeley for a very pleasant, if short stay. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the service excellent. We had an excellent and very reasonably priced meal in the restaurant, and will happily return to the Berkeley the next time we visit Ayr.

Just got back from a Monday to Friday stay in the Berkeley Hotel booked through a Secret Escapes deal. Excellent value, breakfast and 2 course evening meal, room was the one on the web site, all rooms are designed by the owner with the emphasis on Quality and Design, bedding spotlessly clean. We were made very welcome by all staff... More

Just back from the Berkeley after a relaxing weekend. Check in was quick and efficient and we were shown to our room and told where everything was. The room itself was terrific, nicely decorated and well laid out. We had the two best nights sleep we have had in a long time. Breakfast was fine with good quality food, my... More

We had a church party outing for lunch. The service was very poor. The food was good. However, the person responsible for the bill overcharged us by at least £100. We had the people involved and recouperated some of that money. On that I would not recommend anyone to stay here. They are unscrupulous and our experience was most unpleasant.... More

We agree not a good experience for us either ......number one....we are not thieves ...the bill was correct, and you should possibly speak to some of the older members of your party and ask why they ordered sherry. Beer Etc????? yet didn't pay????? we are not a charity!! and regardless of whether your Christian or not all guests are equal... More

Myself and my wife were visiting for the Commonwealth Games for 4 nights and decided to stay in Ayr and travel in rather than experiencing the hugely inflated Glasgow hotel prices. We were therefore leaving early and returning late to the Berkeley each day, however the time we did spend there was disappointing. We checked-in early evening after the long... More
