Essentially you are a guest in Pierres summer home. He is a friendly and very welcoming host. He and his staff provide a friendly atmosphere to relax and enjoy the views and his wonderful cooking. The rooms are well appointed with large bathrooms and flat screen TV Tea and coffee etc. just what you would expect in a 4 star... More

Our first impressions were not great - a handwritten sign on the front door asks you to use the side door, and we then got lost in a corridor. However, we soon began to understand and appreciate the quirkiness of the place. Don't go expecting a country house hotel. It is not at all chintzy. It feels much more like... More

I still cannot comprehend the work that Pierre does to make your stay as easy going and comfortable as possible. There were many Faulty Towers moments during our stay but I say this in a very sincere way. I had the feeling that as soon as Pierre was through a door and out of sight from you he would run... More

My mother and I returned to Shetland in September for a week's stay. We had been to Burrastow two years ago and stayed three nights and it just was not long enough. This inn has everything we look for: beautiful location, fabulous food, and the loving care of an innkeeper who obviously takes what he does very seriously, loves what... More

Pierre and Martha quite simply couldn't do more. The food was outstanding and their home is very beautiful with turkish rugs and great areas to chill out. A wood burning stove in the living room, a library and a conservatory together with modern clean bedrooms. All facilities worked well. Just outside the sea and lovely view. The best B and... More

This was our second visit to Burrastow House - we had been wanting to return to where we got married 8 years ago and finally made it in August this year as a special treat. It was everything we had hoped for and the Vaila room in the old house with 2 adjoining rooms was perfect for us and our... More

Whilst staying in a nearby cottage, we enjoyed a superb and satisfying evening meal at Burrastow House. We were greeted by Pierre who provided a comfortable place with drinks and nibbles where we could relax before dinner and chat with the guests. Our meal was well seasoned, interesting and beautifully presented. It would be a lovely place to return to!

We were won over by the homeliness of Burrastow House. The large and elegant room we had looked out over the bay. The first morning we opened the curtains to spot an otter fishing in the bay - great to watch it from the comfort of our room. We walked from the house around the coast - some lovely coastline.... The location is superb and our rooms were clean and had some quirky and enjoyable adornment. However, the food was grim. A starter of shop bought pasta and a rough and overly acidic pesto with tasteless salad was followed by over cooked fish and potatoes with burnt leeks and "harmless" sauce. The pudding was an overly sweet cake crying out... More

There are some places where I could stay for weeks and weeks quite happily. Burrastow House is one of those places. Just as I arrived, two otters popped up in the bay a mere hundred feet or so from where I stood at my car door. That set the tone for six delightful days. About an hour drive from Lerwick,... More
