Having read the reviews in TripAdvisor, I was looking forward to a stay at Ballathie Country House - it would be as good as other country houses we had stayed at in Scotland. But our time at Ballathie was a great disappointment. After some trouble we found the Riverside Suite we had been allocated. But on entering, there was no... more

I stayed here in April 2009 with my wife and 22 year old daughter, having used this hotel many times for horseracing trips over the last 5 years. My dear wife asked why I always stay at the same hotel and did I not fancy a change, I explained that the hotel was in a perfect location for my needs and... more

A lovely hotel, in a very grand and traditional setting. It was very quiet; and there were no facilities in the hotel such as gym or spa so be sure and take a good book with you. Location wise-it is in the middle of nowhere so if you plan to explore nearby places it is essential you have a car.... more

Had a 2 night break here. Food was wonderful and good choice, staff were excellent, very attentive and caring. The room was a bit 'chintzy' for us but a refreshing change from usual hotel rooms. My favourite bit was the bathroom, built into the turret and with a HUGE bath, I floated! The taps were fantastic. A lovely hotel to... more

The brass plaque on the main door as you first go in to register at a table under the gaze of a huge salmon in a glass case introduces one side of the hotel. There is indeed no pool, no gym, but a gun room, and a drying room. We went with an elderly relative looking only for peace and... more

As a regular visitor to the hotel (normally 2 visits over 9 days every year), I thought I might succinctly review my week long stay in October 2008. Accommodation - I choose to stay at Riverside, a modern building in the grounds of the main hotel, just beside the river. I happen to, as you can (via the hotel) fish... more

I have now stayed at this hotel 4 times (September 2006, January 2007, July 2007 and January 2008). I love driving down their entrance driveway, it just reminds me how much I enjoy staying and eating here. A very grand, long journey to the hotel itself through beautiful countryside. When you arrive you are treated very well and the staff... more

Simply the best service! We got married at Ballathie House Hotel last May and could not fault it! Service was fantastic especially as we organised the wedding from London. In comparison to service at other scottish hotels, we also stayed at the Scotsman in Edinburgh and found the hospitality rather lacking. more

Must have a fabulous past life, with the river Tay running by,birds, rabbits, spring flowers and great trees. However it now needs management, money, makeover, and trained manpower. From booking to paying our bill I think we only met one native english speaker. One of the breakfast waiters at least was learning basics on the job.Their well regarded chef left them last year.We did not take dinner,but... more
