Marie Delaney Cruickshank, our dear friend of more than 20 years, welcomes guests who quickly become friends to her home, The Braighe B&B in Nairn. The warmth of her cozy Victorian home filled with genuine antiques, fresh flowers and tasteful art gives a sense of comfort and belonging, coming home. To keep your stay intimate, and allow you to enjoy peace and tranquility, the Braighe has only two double rooms. Guests also have their own lounge with a variety of interesting books and magazines. Among her many talents, Marie is an award-winning entrepreneur, host and travel expert extraordinaire full of current knowledge and history to share if you care. She is also a wonderful cook who with a twinkle in her eye prepares fine meals that will make you want to stay on. For 35 years The Braighe has been a lovely spot for rest and side trips. It’s an easy walk to the sea and the beach, or to town and the shops, and only a seven-mile drive to historic Culloden, Fort George and the Highlander’s Museum, and a bit further to Inverness. And if it makes you more welcome, Marie speaks Gaelic, Fàilte don taigh againn, and French too, Bienvenue chez nous.

The blend of Irish and Scottish hospitality has drawn me back frequently since 1999. In my travel experience there has never been a place where I have felt more comfortable and at home. Everything I need is within walking distance: golf, the beach, shops.

My 3 night stay at the Braighe was part of my first visit to Scotland. Marie and Blair made me feel so welcome in their lovely Bed and Breakfast! The breakfasts were a delicious way to start the day and Marie's recommendations for dinner and must see sights were excellent! Already looking forward to the next time!

We enjoyed staying with Marie and Blair for 3 nights during our 2-week trip to Scotland. Their hospitality and delicious breakfasts made us feel like we were visiting old friends. Nairn is so nicely located to visit Culloden, Inverness and the beautiful farmlands in northern Scotland. We had a very relaxing time in their historic home, enjoying the antiques and clean/comfortable rooms. Marie gave great advice on local dining and touring options, and she even packed a picnic breakfast for our last morning so we could get on the road early as we had a tea reservation in Edinburgh that day! I already look forward to our next trip!

Here we sit under lock down and reminiscing about our Scotland trip back in 2013! The Braighe brings back great memories, such a delightful hostess and our stay there was wonderful. We experienced many B&Bs on our trip, but yours stood out. The decor, cleanliness and breakfast were of top quality. Marie, you can be proud of what you have to offer.

The Braighe is a lovely place to stay. The bedrooms both have a theme: William Morris and Asia. They are beautifully decorated and absolutely cozy. The dining room where you get breakfast has an electric fireplace. The breakfast is amazing! Every main dish is accompanied by toast and you can always help yourself to cereals and fruit. The cooked breakfast can be chosen from a menu every evening for the next morning. It is perfect if you want to try different kinds of cooked breakfast! Marie and Blair are wonderful people. They just complete the feeling of coming home everytime we stay with them! They are always up for a chat and help you to find things to do and places to go for dinner in the evening! The first time I stayed with my parents in the Braighe was 19 years ago when I was a baby and now that I live and study in Inverness my parents will return to The Braighe every time they visit me. Thank you, Marie and Blair, for all the lovely holidays we have had with you and all that are going to come!

The pinnacle of my year occurs when I revisit Nairn. For twenty years I have been drawn to The Braighe because it is the friendliest accommodation anywhere I have ever stayed. It is conveniently located to the beach, the golf club, the town center, bus station, railway station, and restaurants. Marie's expertise from creating and operating a travel service is certainly helpful.

I was traveling to Scotland for the first time accompanied by my brother who has been often, always staying at The Braighe when it was avaialble. His expectations were set very high which sometimes can be tough to meet. Though the bar was set high I was not disappointed. The spectacular breakfasts and cleanliness of the rooms was fantastic. But that was topped by the hospitality of the owners, Marie and Blair. It felt like I was visiting family abroad. The Braighe was in walking distance to many great restaurants, the beachline, golf, adn the promenade that borders the water. The views are spectacular. This place is highly recommended.

We stayed two evenings at The Braighe with hosts Marie Delany Cruickshank and her husband, Blair Cruickshank. Lovely home, warm hosts, great hosts, comfortable shower, great Scottish breakfast. Marie (MAH-ree) used to run her own tour company so her knowledge of Scotland is extensive and she has a strong connection network. She hooked us up all through Scotland. She is so helpful and she had ins at terrific restaurants. Her home, which is definitely HER home, where she lives, is close to Inverness, Clava Cairns (a MUST see), the Ness River, beaches, the beauty of the Highlands - and she's a jazz lover. Very warm and welcoming. Rooms were homey, lovely garden - it was a good central spot to stay that allowed us travel to many other places.

My daughter and I enjoyed three lovely nights at The Braighe with Marie and Blair. Marie was so helpful with providing information in advance of our travels and helped us plan our time in Scotland. Once in Nairn, she arranged a half day driving tour to Cowder Caste, Culloden Battlefield and the Clara Cairns which we especially enjoyed. She was also very helpful in making restaurant reservations at the Sundance and the Bandstand and we enjoyed both of those dinners very much. Breakfast every morning was delightful. Hot and delicious- one morning we enjoyed fresh stewed rhubarb from her garden. Although located just a short walk from the bus station, Marie was gracious to pick us up and give us a brief driving tour of the town to help us get our bearings on arrival. She also very graciously drove us back to the bus stop when we left. Best of all, Marie greeted us warmly every time she saw us and made us feel right at home. We hope to visit Nairn again and would certainly return to The Braighe. Do yourself a favor and stay for three days and really enjoy this lovely seaside town.
