This hotel is in a great location, friendly staff and a nice bar with occasional Scottish music. Our double room was spacious with a clean bathroom. The view was not great but we were hardly in the room what with the breathtaking scenery outside. We had an awful dining experience one night, the fish was not cooked and the rice pudding was almost... more

We arrived as a group of 21 hillwalkers. Scenery around about is breathtaking, the hotel was very reasonably priced, the food was lovely (we had not one complaint from any of our group). The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff warm, friendly and helpful. The pool is small but adequate, unless you're training for the olympics and the... more

Stopped at the Balavil for just one night. Check in was very swift and staff very friendly. Room was a little on the small side but clean. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Plenty to do in the local area. We ate down the road at a really busy pub/hotel (I don't remember the name, but the food was really reasonable).... more

I very nearly did not stay at this hotel due to some of the negative reviews. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised and the manager was very helpful. The first problem however, was that the boiler in the new block where the family rooms and the swimming pool was located, was broken. There was an electric heater in our room... more

i would usually avoid 2* hotels, but trip advisor seemed positive, so i called to book. the foreign operator was polite and efficient. we arrived after 9pm, friday 13 feb 09, and after parking on the street, made our way in to the hotel. our initial impression was it hasn't been redecorated in ages (old-fashioned), but it isn't worn. the... more

We booked this hotel because it was cheap and it was in the area we wanted to stay in. We stayed for 2 nights. We had a four course dinner the first evening (£10!) but you get what you pay for, it was traditional stodge but it did fill you up. We had a few drinks in the friendly bar... more

We have just returned from a 2 night stay and we will definitely go back. If you are looking for a posh Chic hotel full of free toiletries and poncyness then here is most definitely NOT for you. However if you want a comfortable bed in anadequate room in a hotel with great character, friendly staff and a decent evening... more

We got a great deal on this hotel which I am particularly relieved about, for I probably would have looked elsewhere if I'd had to pay the full rate. The hotel frontage is nice enough, with a cosy guest bar & porch to sit in (in warmer weather). There is a car park opposite the hotel, which might get a... more

We stayed for 2 nights and room was big, warm and quiet. The beds were comfy and the powerful, hot shower was big enough for 2!!! We didn't eat in the hotel in the evenings however the buffet style breakfast was greasy but good! We used the Hotel as a base for cycling and walking around this area and will... more

Inexpensive, pleasant hotel, although some parts are rather old and creaky. Hotel has its own large car park right opposite. The man who acted as receptionist, barman and manager was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed for 7 nights. Didn't like the restaurant much, as although the food was OK, the music drove us to distraction - it was quiet... more
