A bit antiquated but charming. Rooms were clean & comfortable but the smallest shower I have ever seen in a modern city! Due to this being the hottest summer Scotland can recall, we tolerated the no air-conditioning as they at least had fans. Breakfast was delicious! Conveniently beside the train station but unbelievable quiet.

Our four night stay was marred by over the top street noise, particularly Saturday night. Light bulbs out, facilities and fixtures that didn't work, and staff at the front desk and bar that were at best inept and certainly uncaring. One night clerk stood out for outstanding service when he located a fan for us to cool a really warm... More

Great location in the centre adjacent to he railway station . A few parking spaces for the hotel at the front but a bit of a lottery to get one . Entrance to hotel impressive , rooms less so , rather tired and could do with an upgrade. However reasonable valley for money . Breakfast buffet was fine as was... More

I will admit to reviewing this hotel a few years back and being none too complimentary but things have certainly changed. The renovations that were taking place last time we visited are almost finished and what a difference a couple of years can make - the hotel looks stunning now and as an ex-local I was delighted to see it... They really hired a great photographer and web designer for this hotel because it's a place needed updating and certainly does not look or feel like the website projects. Located right next to the train station it is a transient hotel, where bus loads of travellers are passing through. It sure is a busy place and full of life with... More

We stayed at the Royal Highland Hotel when we were on a guided tour of Scotland. There were no washcloths in the bathroom, there was a large shower but no bathtub. The WiFi service was outsourced by the hotel and required an arduous sign-on registration process. Once registered each guest had 45 minuted of free WiFi service. Rooms were comfortable.... More

Our room was huge! Two queen beds with a nice bathroom. But, it's July in Scotland and the room was quite warm. We were provided a fan and opened the windows. Problem solved. However, the windows faced the train station and Inverness is a lively town on the weekends. We couldn't shut the windows to shut out the noise due... More

Set in the centre of Inverness just outside the railway station , very convenient for shops, bars and restaurants . Quite inside though . Beautiful entrance with the reception area and stunning staircase. We were made very welcome by the reception staff on our arrival . Our room was very comfortable , the bathroom was huge and a great standard... More

Stayed at the Royal Highland for three nights last week as part of the (four retired professionals) boys annual trip. Arrived by train, very convenient as the hotel is part of the station, so only ten yards to walk! Also convenient for the city as a whole. First impressions good, pleasant check-in procedure, nice rooms, clean and well presented, tea/coffee... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Royal Highland Hotel is the oldest hotel in the centre of the Highland capital, Inverness. In 2000, the property was carefully restored, retaining its unique character associated with the bygone age. As soon as you enter the hotel you will appreciate this. In the foyer the grand staircase, the inspiration for the Titanic's staircase, leads to the 84 spacious refurbished bedrooms - all with very high ceilings. The decor is rich with traditional furniture and deep colours. The rooms all have soft furnishings and antique style furniture. The excellent bathrooms are generally medium to large in size. For over 151 years, the hotel has been looking after travellers from all over the world. Perhaps its popularity stems from the fact the hotel is a grand place to stay. Large bedrooms, large lounge areas, quiet meeting rooms, good food, prime location and friendly staff all play their part. All local amenities close to hand, but within a 5 minute drive you are out into the dramatic Highlands. Lochness is only 7 miles from the hotel. ... more   less
