Arrived full of anticipation and greeted well at reception. Room reasonable but beds too narrow and decor quite dark and old fashioned. View from window was of River Wick but not very nice. Had read good reports of restaurant but found it to be ordinary. Salmon and chicken were both overcooked and dry, for which there is no excuse. It... more

The room was quite small, but very clean, tidy, and efficient. The elevator was a nice surprise. No A/C, but it's probably only rarely needed at the northern tip of Scotland. Excellent food and service for evening meals as well as breakfast. For a small hotel in a small town, it exceeded our expectations. more

I stopped in the Bistro at Mackays for a bowl of soup.I was served what could only be discribed as an average bowl of Scotch broth, [certainly nothing special] and some tasty brown bread. The cost for that was £4.25.!! In what is to be the year of the Homecoming for visitors,I think most people would consider these prices to be... more

Fantastic small hotel, wonderful rooms with fantastic free WiFi throughout (it was quite fast). Staff were all courteous and friendly, the room was small, but not unpleasantly so, and very comfortable. No 1. Bistro was surprisingly good, some of the best beef dishes ever, made with local ingredients. I would be remiss if I did not mention the Cullen Skink,... more

I lived in Wick a long time ago and when I decided to go back to show my son where I grew up I wasn't sure the hotels would be up to much - but the reviews of Mackays were pretty good, so my son and I stayed for two nights at the start of August. We had a huge... more

We stayed here for 1 night to attend a friends wedding in Wick. We arrived at 11am after a 5 hour drive from Edinburgh not expecting our room to be ready. After a very friendly welcome & complimentary coffee they kindly prepared a room for us straight away. The Hotel appears to have been modernised with flat screen TV's in... more

Mackays was a superb hotel, with awesome food, great staff and lovely rooms that were furnished with great taste. A wonderful atmosphere was provided at dinner, with great choices and a full wine list. Breakfast was very good too! Highly recommended! more

Wonderful receptionist who was extremely helpful and personable (Jennifer). Great bunch of staff who were freindly and professional. The owner was the perfect host who ensured that his customers were being looked after. Food was brilliant and we would have scored top but for the rooms needing a little attention (nothing of major concern though). We would definately stay here... more

My wife and I stayed there and found the rooms comfortable and clean . The hospitality was some of the best we have experienced .. You must have a cocktail in the small lounge . The atmosphere was wonderful kinda reminded us of the states in the late fourties . We felt like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra could come... more
