We ate in the restaurant as a party of 9. Some of the staff were clearly still training but as an ex restaurant manager it was a joy to see the standards they were aiming for, something that is often missing even in far more expensive restaurants.Between us on the table we pretty much covered the whole menu and I... Stayed one night and thankfully we had booked ahead for dinner as the restaurant was full. The hotel was clean and the room comfortable while the no 1 bistro was excellent, the menu sounds plain but the quality is excellent and good value. Plenty of choice at breakfast as well.

I spent another very pleasant week at MacKays Hotel to attend my 15th Wick Gala Week. I have stayed in MacKays Hotel a lot more than 15 times since the year 2000 as I have also been to HarbourFests and other events over the years. I always feel it is like visiting friends when I walk through the door. The... More

I chose Mackays to host a dinner for some fellow professionals and the evening went down very well with my friends and the food even more easily. It is a family affair and the new generation in Jennifer is following in the footsteps of her parents, providing excellent discreet but attentive service - but with her own flair and personality.... Stayed here after walking 18miles from duncansby head via John Ogroats. We arrived in the pouring rain to a friendly receptionist who showed us to our room. We stayed in a room with a river view, which was well decorated. The bathroom was modern with a jacuzzi bath, which unfortunately didn't work. We mentioned this to the owner who quickly rectified... Large quiet room overlooking the river Wick, a town unexpectedly interesting . On the expensive side (£ 119 VAT incl) , but worth it. Welcome cordial and bottled water in room . Walking distance to center and harbor. Hairdryer and even a ready iron and board in the hallway. Cute intimate pub, restaurant charmeless but good food except i could... More

Dear Ondine21 Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you couldn't get a half portion of Cullen Skink, that is very unusual so thank you for raising that training issue. It's great to hear you enjoyed all the little extras we add to our rooms and our food. Next time you're in Scotland do come and stay again... More

This is our second stay at Mackays Hotel. We visited in July last year and again in July 2014 for 3 nights. We flew both ways from Edinburgh to the small airport at Wick which is only 2 miles out of town. Collection from the airport was arranged by a member of the hotel staff. Mackays have a rental car...
