I chose Mackays to host a dinner for some fellow professionals and the evening went down very well with my friends and the food even more easily. It is a family affair and the new generation in Jennifer is following in the footsteps of her parents, providing excellent discreet but attentive service - but with her own flair and personality.... Stayed here after walking 18miles from duncansby head via John Ogroats. We arrived in the pouring rain to a friendly receptionist who showed us to our room. We stayed in a room with a river view, which was well decorated. The bathroom was modern with a jacuzzi bath, which unfortunately didn't work. We mentioned this to the owner who quickly rectified... Large quiet room overlooking the river Wick, a town unexpectedly interesting . On the expensive side (£ 119 VAT incl) , but worth it. Welcome cordial and bottled water in room . Walking distance to center and harbor. Hairdryer and even a ready iron and board in the hallway. Cute intimate pub, restaurant charmeless but good food except i could... More

Dear Ondine21 Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you couldn't get a half portion of Cullen Skink, that is very unusual so thank you for raising that training issue. It's great to hear you enjoyed all the little extras we add to our rooms and our food. Next time you're in Scotland do come and stay again... More

Birthday celebration dinner for a friend. Usual high quality meal. Really enjoyed the beef - cooked to perfection. Thanks for superb hospitality and the special dessert - nice touch! The AA rosette is well deserved!

This is our second stay at Mackays Hotel. We visited in July last year and again in July 2014 for 3 nights. We flew both ways from Edinburgh to the small airport at Wick which is only 2 miles out of town. Collection from the airport was arranged by a member of the hotel staff. Mackays have a rental car... Went to visit Mackays for a meal. Very pleased with the great food on offer at Mackay's Hotel. The starter was Cullen Skink for me and my wife had scallops, Murray the host even told us the name of the man who dived for the scallops in Scapa Flow! Fresh, fresh, fresh! Main was sirloin steak and a tremendous pepper... More

Whilst on a trip North we had lunch at the Mackays after hearing very good reports. Welcome was friendly and we were shown to a table with a reserved notice...odd but every table had one. Menu was a bit confusing as you could chooses from two sections, it was also a bit on the limited side. I had chicken parfait... More

Dear Maretta C Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to give us your feedback. I love your description of 'explosions of flavours' that's exactly what our chefs aim to do with the dishes they create. Please do come back and visit us, give us enough warning and i'm sure Murray will unearth the trophys to show... More
