Booked for 7 nights but when I got there they had only entered me in for 6 nights. The staff are very friendly though, but the place could use a little bit of a face lift. The price though was great as it was half the price of everything else in Thurso. Very close to all the shops and train station,taxi's... More

From the name, and the picture (of the chip shop) we weren't expecting luxury. That said, it was pretty good; and excellent value for money,, especially considering the free (rather basic, and DIY) breakfast. And free unlimited tea/coffee etc, free wifi. Our room was small, but clean and otherwise OK.

If you know what to expect from a backpacker's hostle, you will be alright. If not, you are in trouble. Bread and cereal for breakfast, bed OK, clean, but smelled musty, hosts very helpful, room small, hot water plentiful. Fish and chips across the street wonderful--get the salmon!

First impressions, was that it seemed dirty. However on closer inspection it was just about acceptable. The good points were free wi-fi internet access, a free light breakfast and 10% discount on hot take away food downstairs. Your don't have much choice in this part of Scotland. Overall 6 out of 10

My room with an ensuite bath was certainly dusty and dirty. The bunk beds seemingly purchased used from an old prison, the mattresses old and of the cheapest sort possible, the worst springy evil mattress conceived by man. Linens clean, but well used. No towels (use your own) My toilet was broken, the soap dispenser broken, the TP holder broken,... More

-You check in at the chip shop downstairs. Not expected, but it works fine, so nothing wrong with that. The hostel is situated on two levels, one with a common room with free breakfast, wifi and a (slow) computer, as well as some rooms. Our room was on the upper level. -Ensuite room, the plumbing was loud, but everything fine.... More

This is a horrible hostel. You checkin at the downstairs fish and chip/chinese place which in itself looks scummy. Once taken to our room it was light with only 4 beds but was filthy. Everything was dirty, sheets had various body hairs visible, shavers and soaps still in bathroom from previous guests. According to their policy we werent allowed to... More

I have stayed in hostels all over the world and have had very few bad experiences so it was disheartening to find one of such poor quality in my own country. The place was filthy, ever surface touched was tacky and the floor had obviously not been cleaned for some time (toenails, and dirt found not just in the corners... More

For £20/night, this is a decent place to stay. We got a room to ourselves, en suite bathroom, and full use of the well-stocked kitchen. Not extremely tidy, but what hostel is? Bedding is clean and rooms are clean. Did notice that the chip-shop smell stuck to our clothes a little bit. Owner/chip shop employees friendly and talkative, but had... More

I arrived at Sandra's off the Thurso train, having travelled all day with my four children. I already knew to check in at the chip shop so was worried at first to see it was closed! I was, however, greeted by a chap who was friendly and who booked us in (after seeing me off to the cashpoint, apparently Booking.com... More
