Superb three star hotel I stayed mid week. The reception staff were amazing and consistently professional. I had a twin room which was spacious and clean with fresh towels daily. Breakfast was excellent and there was a good range of bar meals available if you didn't fancy eating the dining room. The furnishings are dated but functional.

As the title says - not a lot to say about the royal hotel, don't expect anything other than a bed for the night and a hearty meal with a standard breakfast. The building could do with a lick of paint and an upgrade as feeling and looking a bit tired and crinkly at the edges but friendly staff and... More

used this hotel whilst traveling to orkney, room was fine, clean and spacious although difficult to find. most staff friendly with exception of young dark haired girl on reception who was as welcoming as a fart in a spacesuit. food was ok but little bland . Bar was ok although barman more interested in playing machine that dealing with customers.... More

My wife & I stayed three nights half board in room 137. We have passed this hotel many times & have friends in the area who had told stories. As expected it's a bit of a warren. The room which overlooks a 'courtyard' had not been made up on our arrival. But they instantly jumped into action & did it... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on a bus tour of the area! The rooms were clean and comfortable! The breakfast was basic:Full Scottish breakfast consisted of one sausage, one rasher of bacon, fried egg, potato scone and half a tomato? No bread or rolls? Even toast was at a premium, when you asked for more,it finally turned up when we were... More

This is a traditional highland hotel set in the centre of the town of Thurso in the north of Scotland. We stayed there for four nights on a bus tour of the area. It was an excellent base. The breakfast was basic but more than sufficient. The cooked breakfast was plentiful and there was an abundant amount of toast and... More

Staff - could not have been more helpful in the bar, dining room and especially at reception. They kindly printed out a ticket I had forgotten to print out before leaving home. The breakfast staff were very efficient and anything we asked for we got promptly. Bar/restaurant the food was tasty and we didn't have to wait too long. As... More

We arrived and booked in around 18hoo and then left quickly to cycle to john o groats, to complete our massive journey of 1700km. Staff very friendly. Upon our return my colleague realized he had forgotton to pick up his passport from a location in john o groats. We had already arranged to have our bikes sent back from john... More

Firstly I must correct info that a previous reviewer made (PGNevis) - there is a lift in the hotel - many of our party used it. We stayed here as part of a coach trip to John O'Groats and Orkney. Yes the hotel is a little dated but our experience was that the staff were very friendly and helpful, both... More
