The hotel is a bit old-fashioned and could do with a bit of modernising, but our room was clean and comfortable with a good bath and shower. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly - and it was cheaper than most B&Bs in the area.

Good location but really needs a massive overhaul. The main reception area is bright, airy and pleasant but the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Faded paint in the rooms and large marks on the walls. The TV could also be doing with being upgraded and the remote didnt work (Probably needing battery replacement). The bathroom was also fairly dingy... More

I stayed at the Royal Hotel in Thurso when it was organised through my work. I arrived before check in and they allowed me access to my room early. Great! Got to the room and it hadn't been cleaned and there was a half eaten sandwich on the bed. Room had very old style windows at the front which allowed... More

The hotel and room were clean and tidy, the was a roaring fire in the lobby fireplace when I walked in. I received a warm welcome, the bed was comfy. The restaurant was closed and I left before breakfast so I can't comment on the food. A limited menu of bar meals was being served but I opted for a... More

We were a group of guys on a road trip around Scotland and booked this without checking TA, what a mistake that was. I cannot fault the staff at reception but sorry the rooms were very old fashioned, heating that dated back to the 1930's a roasting hot. The facilities were poor to say the least. The only positive was... More

Just returned from an overnight stay and have mixed views on the hotel. I am not one for taking much notice of negative reviews and often find them untrue but on this occasion I agree with what a lot of people say. First impressions from the outside looking at the front are good as are in reception. A great and... More

This hotel was a little isolated with few other bars around. Dated decor, but staff were attentive and friendly, the food was delicious. Value for money as a port of call along our trip to the Highlands.

We stayed in the hotel recently for 2 nights and after booking we checked the reviews and were expecting to be disappointed however the hotel was lovely and clean with comfy beds and the best fish and chips I've eaten since well...... Ever. Admittedly it's not the ritz but then again it doesn't cost the earth. If anything the car... More

I've titled my review with a positive, as on the whole, there aren't many. On entering the hotel, there is a lovely warm open fire in the foyer, but it went downhill from there. I can understand that single rooms & doubles may not be near each other, but the two rooms we booked couldn't have been further apart if... More
