Nice and quiet, a good taxi ride out of the town (approximately £10, but very good local taxi company) Food excellent, not cheap, but worth the money look out for Ann the manager, you would think she should be putting her feet up in retirement, but she's the type of person a gem, who just makes the place very special.... more

We have just returned from a trip to Scotland to support a couple of Lands End to John O' Groats cyclists, and were lucky enough to spend 2 nights the Forss Country House Hotel. It was an absolute pleasure. Our initial welcome to the hotel was by Anne MacKenzie, and it set the tone for the whole stay – welcoming,... more

Great welcome to this relaxed and comfortable hotel. Despite earlier reviews we found the wine OK, the food was excellent and a wonderful range of malts dispensed by an expert. more

What a fantastic hotel!! If you want to experience the best of Scottish Country House style , welcome, service and accommodation standards - then stay here. We booked the hotel for a small corporate get -together over 3 days, staying 2 nights. With a party of 10, we sampled all the rooms available, either in the main hotel or in... more

Having decided to visit the Highlands for the first time we decided that February would be ideal and despite our fears about the weather we are glad we did as it was fantastic. Very little traffic and wonderful sights but more of that in another review. We went for 6 days, 5 nights and stayed in 4 different establishments, 2... more

We have just returned from a fantastic three nights at Forss. Anne in particular was extremely helpful from my intial contact . All the staff were very friendly and keen to ensure our stay was enjoyable. My husband went deer-stalking with a local gamekeeper, arranged by Anne, and had a truly fantastic experience. The accomodation was superb , spacious, well... more

Forss House Hotel - Forss by Thurso, Caithness, North Scotland We spent one night at this hotel on 24th sept 2007 as part of our 4-night stay in Scotland. We arrived late after a delay at the airport (well after 8.30) - it was dark - and drove straight past the massive hotel signs, which you can’t miss during the... more

This is the fourth of six reviews covering our 2007 tour of Scotland. Our tour takes us from our home in Hampshire up the West coast of Scotland and over to Orkney back over to Scotland and down the East coast to Aberdeen then home via York. The Forss Country House at Thurso was the 4th hotel of our marathon... more

Stayed for one night en route to Orkney. On previous trips had always stayed overnight at the Portland Arms in Lybster, which used to be very good. But am glad that we've now discovered Forss House. One of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. I endorse all the praise that has been included in previous reviews. This is quality,... more

Set in lovely gardens, with maybe the only trees on this very barren area near Thurso, this hotel offer a very comfortable stop over if you need access to the Orkney Ferry leaving from Scrabster. Large, well appointed rooms and friendly, if sometimes a bit quirky service. One problem that they need to fix, is the heavy doors leading into... more
