Arrived at the Station Hotel after a long and cold journey to be met with a warm welcome at this older style hotel. Comfortable room, porridge and Marmite standard at breakfast, what more could anyone want? Lovely soft water makes hair feel wonderful after washing too! Helpful and obliging staff made this a worthwhile visit.

Location very convenient Friendly kind staff Useful suggestions from proprietor, e.g. he suggested we took a taxi to Cups Tearoom at Scrabster instead of catching the bus as it would be cheaper - he even called a taxi for us! Nice evening meal Good breakfast All facilities needed for a comfortable stay - thank you. Son's room had a close... More

I stayed here for 2 nights as part of an Insight tour group and had heard mixed reviews from one extreme to the other!! So I went with an open mind and found that doing so worked. The positives of this hotel is firstly its location....its the gateway to exploring the Orkneys. I was also not disappointed with the service... More

The hotel has large suites with its own car parking, rooms cleaned daily, large bathroom, towels changed daily, problems with internet, problems with a place at the table during breakfasts, modest breakfast and often served cold food.

Pleasantly surprised on first seeing the room. It was room 29 which was an outdoor apartment. Very clean and comfy. A twin room, both beds creaked loudly. There was an intermittent leak from the cold tap on the bathroom washbasin which was reported but not dealt with. Breakfast was ok, but dinner, which we had one night only, was pretty... More

Our room was large and comfortable. Alas there was a radiator in the bathroom that we could not adjust and the room was too hot for comfortable sleep. As I do not eat meat I asked about the kippersbon the menu - they were not available. My partner asked for porridge but it never arrived! On telling the watress that... More

Stayed in one of the apartments for a week. Came with everything needed for a comfortable stay - cooking equipment, TV, comfortable bed, good shower and bathroom. Only issue was non existent internet - the hotels wifi was so slow it was unusable - would be better for business use if able to use. Overall though a very good stay.... More

The Station Hotel is a reasonable choice in an area not distinguished for good hotels. The food was somewhat above average, as were the rooms. It is of course convenient for John O'Groats and the surrounding area and for the ferry at Scrabster to Orkney.

Simply lovely!!!!! All staff were friendly and very helpful. Good value for money. Food was excellent. Totally recommend this place. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The night we stayed had a coach party staying and they took over the dinning room. However the staff made us feel welcome in the bar area.

Stayed here in August 2014 for 2 nights on a tour of Scotland. In a "remote" location did not expect much and got what I expected. Room in "basement" was dark and uncomfrotable but reasonably clean. Staff was very helpful and food was surprisingly good here. As a place to "put your head" while visiting in the north of Scotland,... More
