The Melvich Hotel is in a lovely setting with great views over the bay. It is clean but the decor is a little tired in places and there has obviously been some sort of water penetration problem in the past judging by the stains on the ceiling tiles. Having said that our room had everything we needed. We made the... more

Stayed at the Hotel and fished the Halladale river for a week. It is quiet towards the end of September but the hotel has a friendly, comfortable feel, with the meals (and the vast choice of malt whiskies) doing down very well at the end of the long days. The views are fabulous, the hospitality was great and overall we... more

We visited "up north" for the second time this year, this time there were no less than four beers on tap, all brewed by the owner. As enthusiastic members of CAMRA, we were impressed. All the beers were good... and an asthmatic I appreciated the fact that the hotel is non-smoking! The pool table was also in good condition! The... more

This is the second year running that we stayed at this hotel, the first time after seeing the ad in the CAMRA magazine, the second time because we knew the beer was good. We were not let down, the owner had 4 beers on, all very good including his 'fast reactor'. The food was very good, both dinner and breakfast,... more

We spent 14 days in scotland and the melvich hotel was the worst hotel where we've stayed. We paid far too much for such hotel, the rooms were little, dirt on the ceiling, noises from the neighbours. The breakfast staff was unfriendly and unhelpfull ! I recommend B&B in scotland, they are much better then the hotels for their price. more

Before retirement we, some ten inspectors and two instructors from the IAEA (UNO in Vienna) stayed in the Melvich for a week and this repeatedly several years. The rooms were acceptable, diner according to our whishes (even lobster on special request at a regular price), a nice Scottish lady served our whiskeys at a nicely smelling peatfire. In June 2005... more

I chose this hotel because of its lovely setting and micro brewery. Past reviews mentioned range of real ales. The reality was so different. Only one real ale, but the pump was broken, so waitress spent 15 minutes in the cellar getting each pint. European staff with no training, no smiles, and no interest in guests. No peat fire. Residents... more

The description of the hotel on the Internet is splendid. We soon realised that the poor staff were as at sea as the guests. How many hotels ask you to tick a breakfast list the night before and then get it wrong next morning? The waitresses were all from out of the UK and had little English. The worst thing... more
