As part of a tour, we stayed at one of the hotels of the Aviemore Highland Resort. Since we were on tour and only stayed there one night, I'm assuming we got what we paid for. The hotel we were in was old, not updated and the rooms were small and quiet hot even with the heat turned down. The... more

The good points about the Highland Resort (where we stayed for 3 nights) : the very friendly well trained staff, the location, the leisure centre, the views from the breakfast room (in good weather) Not so good: the appearance - ugly concrete monstrosity - what were the planning committee thinking? When you first arrive it can be difficult to find... more

I had the misfortune to stay at the Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort for work one Sunday night and apart from the views from the Aspects restaurant and leisure centre with excellent swimming pool I could not find one redeeming feature about the resort. Be warned as there are two hotels - one is the ugly office block Four Seasons immediately... more

We stayed in the Highlands Hotel in the Macdonald Aviemore last week for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. After checking in at the main reception centre, we drove round to the hotel to be told by the receptionist that the best way to get to our room would be to go back outside and in by the... more

Just returned from our third trip to Academy Hotel at Aviemore. Have been on two "Santa Breaks" - which are excellent value for money and great fun for kids. Staff always very friendly and helpful, only complaint is quality and cost of food in resort, particularly Giovanni's. Kids buffet is £7.50 per head, with cost of drink £1.50 on top.... more

No one else in our tour had the experience we had so by no means take this as normal. Upon walking in our room we about fell over after being hit by the most horrible smell imaginable. Long story short, there were NO other rooms in our building and our tour guide had to get involved to get us a... more

We were there as a golf party of 16 staying in 8 twin rooms at £110 B&B per night in the Four Seasons party of the resort. The hotel was fine but in my opinion the decor of the rooms, especially the bathrooms was well below what I would expect for that kind of room rate and in general the... more

We stayed over the Easter break. The hotel was rather disappointing as it is just a collection of ugly concrete blocks lacking ambience with unimaginative landscaping. There is lots of parking and the hotel is a great location right on top of the town and within easy reach of Cairngorm - which had snow at the top for skiing/boarding! We... more

Stayed over the easter break, last minuite booking through local tourist board, (helpful). No view as such from window, but far too many people moan, what can they see from their windows at Home!!!! Room was clean - modern and comfy. No problems what so ever, check in quick - polite - attentive. Breakfast first class. Book with confidence. more

If you are the kind or person who finds themselves drawn to the intrigue of German Concentration camps, I think this Hotel might be for you. From the moment you ascend the driveway to the main body of this Colditz style '60s poured Concrete eyesore, you may, like me, feel a 'sinking feeling' within your stomach. Now don't get me... more
