Booked to stay here to break up the journey from the ferry at Newcastle on the way up to Thurso - and was very happy that I did. Cosy single room, good homecooked evening meal, great breakfast. Loved watching the wildlife in the garden during meals. Fantastic homemade shortbread in the room too. Was quite pricey for the single dinner... more

I've stayed at Fairwinds now 5 or 6 times. I've stayed in the hotel and the chalets. The main benefit I find is that the owners, Alison and Lindsay, are so flexible. Anything that you want they will do their best to help out with. Whether it is meals, helping out with something when self catering or just a bit... more

Lovely clean, large, well appointed rooms. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Excellent breakfasts and really fantastic dinners (venison fillet with Rowanberry, Juniperberry and Port was incredible!!!). Really relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Would highly recommend for a quiet weekend break or equally a great base for walking, cycling and all other outdoor sports. Would recommend taking advantage of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast... more

My boyfriend & I were based here for two nights while we went to explore the highlands and not only was it a great location (next door to an adventure park and central to places we wanted to visit), the hospitality was excellent and the food superb. We had dinner there on our first evening which was delicious, with huge... more

We booked three rooms for our team of six for the "Golden Spurtle" World Porridge Chamionship. The proprietors, Lindsay and Allison, provided us the perfect base for our important mission of bringing the Golden Spurtle to Portland, Oregon. That's right, we won! It was a crazy adventure and the Fairwinds was an incredible support to us. They let us ship... more

We stayed in a two bed chalet in the hotel grounds. This was not our first stay but it might be the last. The location is absolutely beautiful, tranquil and peaceful. Perfect. However the Chalets decor is dated and has not been redecorated since our first visit in 2001. It was also in need of a really good clean. It... more

We really enjoyed our time at Fairwinds. The tranquil and serene surroundings, the lovely conservatory, the playful squirrels and rabbits, the cute ducks and the lazy cats, they were all so many small pieces of nice and beautiful. What's more, the owners are simply great and were very, very helpful in retrieving our bags which BA lost and flew around... more
