For true Highland hospitality come to the Highlander, a hotel renowned for its good food and warm welcome. The hotel is an ideal base for touring the North of Scotland with mountain ranges, forests, lochs and river valleys waiting to be explored. Wind down in our inviting restaurant serving an array of dishes made from locally sourced produce. Perhaps a wee dram from the bar would suit; choose a whisky from one of the many local distilleries for which this area is famous for throughout the world. more » « less

Stayed 6 nights at this hotel as part of a ski package. Was not sure what to expect given other reviews, but had a great time. The accommodation could do with an upgrade but was still very comfortable. The friendliness and helpfulness of all of the staff was greatly appreciated and the food was excellent. My family and I can't... more

Stayed three nights but one night was really enough. Staff pleasant and tried hard to make us feel welcome but this 'hotel' is really a 'motel', largely catering for large coach parties staying one night only and is seriously in need of an upgrade. The bathroom (could have been cleaner ) was very generous in size but contained no bath,... more

We are a young couple in our 20's who stayed at the Highlander Hotel for 2 nights during Feb. 2007 for a weekend break. Picked this hotel due to a great offer price through easybreak holidays. Plenty of car parking close to all rooms on arrival. Room was bigger than any other hotel room we have stayed in and was... more

We have just returned from a Highland tour with Newmarket Holidays staying at the Highlander as a base on a half board basis. Although some people did have smaller rooms (the hotel seems to be split into two halves for accomodation) we had a larger one and have no complaints about it.. We doubted that the small wall mounted heater... more

My wife and I have just spent four enjoyable days at this hotel and we are so glad that we did not read these reviews before we went, otherwise we might not have stayed there. We cannot agree with these reviews. Our experience was quite different. We arrived to a warm welcome from management and were given a modern warm... more

I can only endorse the previous writer's comments about the Highlander at Newtonmore - there is nothing there I could disagree with. My wife and I also wanted a first class bus tour and INSIGHT was recommended. The Highlander is the "pits" but I didn't blame the hotel - I blamed INSIGHT TOURS. I was so incensed by the standard... more

If you've ever stayed in a tired roadside motel in the heartland of America you will recognize the experience in this Scottish Highlands venue. It's just adequate, mind you, but you'll be glad to hear the door slam when you leave. As an example, there's no tub in the bathroom, but a tiny plastic shower just barely big enough to... more

We wanted a First Class luxury coach tour of Scotland so our travel agent recommended Insight Tours. Insight Tours rates the Highlander as "Moderate First Class" whereas the Highlander Hotel rates itself as a two star budget hotel. Which is correct? One of our tour group stated he felt that the hotel was one step up from a tent trailer.... more
