An older Country style hotel set in beautiful gardens. Large, comfortable rooms and friendly service. Excellent Bistro, and formal Dining Room, with comfortable lounges and bar area. Ideal for a base near Edinburgh (about 45 minutes away by car). more

I expected great things from some of the 5* reviews on this site, but can only presume they were written by those fortunate enough to be staying in an upgraded room (which I was not offered at the time of booking or on arrival at the hotel). The standard rooms are very - well, standard. No view, shower over the... more

I booked this place via a late booking website and paid £45 less than the standard cost of bed & breakfast for dinner, bed and breakfast. The whole experience was so good I felt I'd committed some form of robbery when I came to settle the bill! Room - perfect. Staff - the best of any hotel I've ever been... more

Last August my wife and I were invited to a wedding at Balbirnie House and as we thoroughly enjoyed it we decided that we would at a later date go back for a break. We have just returned from a mid week break and I confess that we were not disappointed. On arrival the Receptionist told us that we had... more

We couldn't believe our luck when we arrived at Balbirnie (July 2005) having booked that morning on laterooms.com. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and as the hotel was not busy we were upgraded to one of their luxury suites at no extra charge. The room was enormous and dwarfed the 4-poster bed. The furnishings were sumptuous and... more

My husband and i decided to stay at Balbirnie to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. On our arrival the red carpet and piper were there to greet what was presumably a wedding party. We were filled with immediate dread we have been to several supposed quality establishmets to find that the wedding party totally takes over from all other guests in... more

Stayed in Balbirnie House in one of their Four Poster Spa rooms. The staff were friendly, the rooms were very nice, the spa was definitely set-up for romantic encounters. Toiletries were Molton Brown, including a great cucumber shampoo that you can’t get in the stores. The Orangery, their restaurant, was a little pricey but still very nice. The hotel is... more

Well, I've just visited and stayed at Balbirnie House on the back of reading a corker of a review in The Daily Record, and I have to say that pound for pound this was the best stay I've ever had in Scotland. My wife and I stayed overnight for less than £100 per person, including afternoon tea and dinner. And,... more
