We stayed from 25th to 31st of July of 2014. It is a clean, cosy and friendly guest house. The breakfast is also good and you can choose among several options. It is also well located, just five minutes walking to the centre of the city. Everything was perfect and the landlord was very nice. Estuvimos del 25 al 31... More

My stay at the Armadillo Guesthouse was great. The location is probably one of the best locations as far as Bed and Breakfasts go. You are located about 10 minutes walking from the Castle and 12 minutes walking from the Royal Mile. There are also many bus stops close by that you are able to catch that will bring you... More

We have just had the most marvellous city break in Edinburgh. What a beautiful city full of such friendly people. We were recommended by friends to The Armadillo and dear Trish may I say you were integral to the success of our trip. Leaving the guest house every morning with a full tummy after a wonderful nights sleep in your... More

We had the double room on the 4th floor with a private shower. No elevator, no help with the luggage. The room was clean and adequate, facing the back, so no street noise, but you can hear everything in the room next door. However, the biggest problem is that the owner/manager was quite unhelpful and did not seem truthful. The... More

What a fantastic guesthouse, we stayed here for 2 nights during the festival. Excellent location, ten mins walk from main city centre. Our room was lovely and spacious, bed slightly bigger than your average double en suite, good hot shower and fluffy towels. Tea, coffee making facilities and greeted by an attentive proprietor. Trish could not have been more helpful,giving... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
