Stayed here for the weekend and was really impressed fridge was stocked daily with water, fruit juice and yoghurt and muffins. Also tea coffee and adorable biscuits. This wee gem is handy for access to anywhere in Edinburgh with trams and buses a 5 min walk away. Only 10 min walk to Omni centre and Playhouse Theatre. The staff are... More

We arrived to Edinburgh after a 12 hour flight and were able to find Village Apartments easily from the airport. The hotel is conveniently located near restaurants, cafes, theater and tourist destinations. There are ample gay bars nearby and the neighborhood is quiet, comfortable and easy to get around without a car. The room was spacious, it had great amenities... More

By no means anything fancy but completely met our needs. Great location with easy walk to everywhere we went in Edinburgh, lots of restaurants right in the neighbourhood, parking was easy on the street. Room and bathroom were very modest but the best was comfortable and the place quiet. I'm guessing we would have been happier had one of the... More

Recently had the pleasure of a 5 night stay at The Village Apartment. The following is an honest appraisal that is stated by an experienced traveller, comparing this with other City breaks. Franco does give you a warm welcome and is an excellent asset to the company managing these apartments. The locale is excellent; as you turn left you can... More

If you want accommodation that doesn't rip you off during the Festival, then this is it! For a very reasonable price you get an apartment style room with microwave, fridge, kettle, tea coffee - LUXURY biscuits (much appreciated when coming back from late bars!), muffins, orange juice, mineral water, daily change of towels, very comfortable bed and a real secret... We couldn't fault the place. Great location and clean comfortable accommodation. Free breakfast (muffin, juice, water, milk, coffee) and internet are plus. Friendly staff. We would recommend it and stay here again.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
