We found this place whilst looking on a last minute kind of website and found it for the bargain price of £50. For this price it had everything we could want- a really close location to main street (15 min walk), really clean bathroom and the room was plenty big enough for two. The wi-fi didn't work properly when we were there and the t.v reception was average but we spent most of the time out and about anyway. For a really clean place in the centre of town, for a bargain price, you can't go past this place.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights whilst on holiday in Edinburgh. We chose the hotel as it was a good price and we were on a budget. The room was great; bed was comfy and the shower was good. The hotel owners email you a room code before you arrive. This means there is no hassle with checking in, however, we never saw anyone in the hotel or met the hotel staff. There are lots of places nearby to have breakfast (the hotel doesn't provide breakfast), and I would recommend Urban Angel on Hanover Street, it does gluten free toast! Also, walk into the city centre via Calton hill for great views! The only thing that wasn't so good is that you only get two towels, with no hand towel in the bathroom. But this was very minor!

We stayed in one of the basement rooms. You will find lots of those in Edinburgh. A little bridge leads to the front door of the house and in a trench underneath -with a flight of stairs leading there- you have the basement rooms. It's quite cozy down there, but you need to shut the curtains or else passersby will have a look. ;) The neighborhood is quiet. No noise problem at all - not from the street and not from the other guests. The room was bigger than we had expected. We had a flatscreen TV (with a DVD player inside), a hair dryer, coffee and tea, and a water boiler - everything you need when you come back after a day in the city. The hotel has a DVD collection that we took advantage of. If you don't need that and if you have paid in advance you won't neccessarily meet the

We stayed at the Lantern Guest House for 5 nights while we explored Edinburgh. The room was large and the guest house itself was in a great location for walking to all the top tourist attractions that we wanted to see. The only slight downside about the room was the shower which was not very powerful. This did not take away from the positives of the guest house though, and we would definitely stay here again if we came back to Edinburgh. For a great view of the city I would recommend walking up Calton Hill which is just opposite Windsor Road.

Our stay at Lantern House was lovely, we arrived very early and were able to check in four hours early as the room was ready, which was very much appreciated. The room was warm, the bed was comfortable, and the en suite shower was huge! Excellent value for money and although breakfast is not provided, the location is great so there are lots of choices (we recommend snax cafe for a great value Scottish breakfast!) We would definitely stay here again.

Great location and value for money. We booked direct with the Lantern House and found this to be better value than some of the online booking sites. Very good comms from the owners, who were also pleasant and inviting on arrival. Location is a big plus; everything is in walking distance. The only negative comment is the room, although clean wasn't spotless, coffee stains on the woodwork. However the bedding was crisp and the bed very comfortable. I would stay again.

My boyfriend and I have just got back from a lovely week-end in Edinburgh. The guest house was perfectly located, was near the Omniplex, restaurants and with walking distance from Princes Street. we arrived quite early in the morning but they said we could leave our bags and go off exploring as our room wasn't ready, when we got back the rooms was clean tidy and our bags were there. Gorgeous little ensuite bathroom with a great power shower, comfy bed and warm enviroment, we didn't see the owners again but we had all their details if we needed to contact them. Didn't do B&B but a gorgeous little Italian Cafe round the corner which served lovely breakfast from full Scottich Breakfast to toast and porridge...! Was the perfect stay, good value for money, great loacation, great

A great little guest house situated just behind Carlton Hill and close to the Playhouse and Omni Centre. Our room was at the rear and on the lower ground floor, this meant we had no view as it looks out onto a small area between the wall of the next building and was a little dark but not a problem. (I'd suggest maybe a couple of plants in pots would have been nicer to look at rather than the mop and bucket out there) The room was clean and very well decorated. The bathroom was modern with large shower. The owners emailed a keycode to us before we arrived so you go straight to your room with no check-in which is handy. The only problem we found was there was no wifi signal in our room as advertised. When we rang and asked about this the owner came down but couldn't do

Had a lovely weekend in Edinburgh - room was clean, modern en-suite and lashings of hot water in the shower. Location was ideal - 5 minutes walk from the station, and felt very safe, even tho we arrived after dark both evenings the outside light was really bright. Room was quiet, too. We had a short walk to the Scottish Parliament in the morning, then a stroll the full length of the Royal Mile during the day. Meal recommendations good - we ate at the local Nepalese restaurant and Italian 'diner' for breakfast, all within 100 yards or so of the front door. Thank you!! (didn't contact the owners during the stay, but all contact details were available, should we have had a problem, which we didn't!)
