Lantern Guesthouse was exactly what we were looking for. We were greeted with a big smile by Richard the owner, when we arrived and showed to our lovely room with private coded access. The Guesthouse is within walking distance to all the nice eating places, shops, Waverley Train Station and big tourist attractions. We were even lucky with 2 bus... More

Spent in room 1 for 3nights. The room was clean, spacious & comfortable. The en-suite was on the small side, but adequate for a 3night stay. There was a microwave, fridge, ironing board & iron in the passage just outside our room, which we could use. Richard the owner is very pleasant, & is ok with us eating in the... More

We stayed in room 4. The room was small as advertised but more than adequate for our 3 night stay. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The room is not en-suite but a private bathroom was just along the hallway. The bathroom was large with a great sized bath and separate shower cubicle and again was... More

Richard, the owner, is very nice. The location is good and the room was spacious and clean. However the rooms are kind of in the basement and get both stuffy and damp. This leads to a slight mustiness so should be avoided by people with allergies, etc.

I communicated with Richard via email to get the room booked and he was very prompt and professional throughout the whole process. They sent plenty of info and perfect directions prior to our arrival and it was an easy downhill walk from Waverley Train Station (it is also around the corner from a bus stop and a short walk to... Location was one of the main attractions and this was only a short walk into the city centre so thumbs up for this. However, after being welcomed by Richard and shown our room we felt disappointed. The furnishings were tired and very dated (not retro by design)! The shower room smelt particularly unpleasant as there was mold on the wall... More

Dear Peter Thank you for your stay and for your review. I'm concerned you felt your experience wasn't great. Owning a Georgian building has it's joys and challenges I have come to realise. I have invested in a de-humidifier to help combat dampness (and mould). I will refresh the shower area as soon as possible. Kind regards Richard More

I spent a couple of nights in one of the lower floor rooms. Richard welcomed us warmly and checking in was no problem. Despite being below pavement level, the room was fairly bright. However it was a little damp/musty. The bed was a little small for a couple and the shower was pretty much as compact as it gets. Other... More

An excellent place to stay, near the city centre and bus stops. The host, Richard, is very friendly and helpful. No food is provided, but there is plenty of choice nearby in local cafes, bars and restaurants. You are also welcome to bring takeaways or food in to microwave. I recommend the Day ticket which allows unlimited travel for one... More

Located in a central area, within 5 minutes of the Playhouse where we were attending a show. Easy to find, if you walk the right way unlike me! Thank you very much for a lovely stay, Richard! David and Amy, Room 2 :)
