We stayed three nights at Menzies. The staff were very nice, helpful and allowed us to check in early. They phoned the taxi for us and were attentive. The breakfast was okay, standard continental, no hot food. They are close to the castle and have free wifi. I would stay there again.

We stayed for one night with a young child. When we first arrived, the first impression was not very good. Décor was very dated, and the room felt very dirty. The bottom sheets had brown stains on, and it put me off sleeping there. I slept with pyjama bottoms on, socks and a cardigan, because I felt like I would... More

We're a family if vegans and vegetarians, and the breakfast was the best we've had on our trip. The fresh homemade falafel and a selection of healthy cereals and dried fruit, nuts and seeds for breakfast was just perfect. The owner was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The room and shared bathroom (we were the only ones... More

We visited in March 2013. The attic room we were given was so cold that the owner had left a small heater in the room which gave out very little heat and was very noisy. The room was very old fashioned and looked as if it hadn't been decorated in 25 years. The bathroom was very small and the shower... More

Excellent value for money. It's a good place to stay while you staying. It's 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The rooms have a fair size and the guests are very friendly. The breakfast is included and it was convenient. They have private car park for people traveling by car. Recommended.

I booked this guestthouse as it stated it was close to the city centre. It wasn't. We had a poor welcome, the attic room we were given was cold and had no heating except a small electric convector heater, the en suite was tiny and had nowhere to put shower gel, towels etc. There was also an electric socket behind... We stayed here for three nights whilst exploring Edinburgh. Our car was securely housed out back. We found that it was very central and did not need to use our car. The room was clean, and we had a small ensuite. Perfectly adequate. The breakfast was certainly different, but filling. I would stay here again, but get a first floor... More

Excellent location but they will not let your car remain parked for even an hour after checkout, in case you are planning for last day walk in city center. Breakfast was just about bearable. I paid same amount at Best Western in Portbello and was much much happier.

Had the 3-bed family room. It was designed for 4 people. Nice appointments. Not a place to spend time, but excellent value for the price. Friendly owner too. Use google map to figure out the buses. Taxi from downtown was 6.50. Take the taxi to the house, but you can talk into town or to a bus in the morning.

It is a very good choice to stay when visiting Edinburgh. Warm hospitality, clean rooms with hot water 24h, rich breakfast with a large variety. You really feel at home. The distance from the city center is not far. You can go on foot, it is close enough and easy to get there. You only have to ask the kind... More
