The hotel is in a great position, a nice cooked breakfast, however our room was basic and had a large stain on the carpet at the entrance to the bathroom. The reception staff were lovely however the barman was dodgy tried to charge us and another couple for drinks we did not have so watch your bills.

We booked this hotel last minute at a great price and were pleasantly surprised. It is in the best possible location that it could be, right amongst all the restaurants and attractions in edinburgh. The room was lovely and modern albeit not with the best view (but we expected that as we booked so late). The bathroom was nicely decorated... More

The hotel was really easy to find and in a good location. On Princess Street, beside Boots, it couldn't be more central. The lady at check in was very helpful and the process very smooth. I had booked a single room and was pleasantly surprised to receive a double. The room was very nice, the bed very comfortable and the... More

The hotel is situated in a great location. I was in room number 5 and the window was facing a narrow inner courtyard; not very nice. Also the air in the room was very stuffy and it was difficult to air. Otherwise the room was correct albeit rather dated. This hotel was a good choice for my 1 day stay.... More

We booked this hotel for the location (right across the street from the access to the Castle and environs) and we definitely got that benefit - close to Rose street and all the pubs and lots of shopping. Having said that, the hotel itself is overpriced for what you get. Only 18 bedrooms total spread over 4 floors, it is... More

We stayed here for one night at the end of an eight day cruise. The location is perfect - directly across from Edinburgh Castle with a great view. The room was typically "European small" but adequate for one night. We had requested a castle view room and were accommodated, but the room fronts Princess St. and it was VERY noisy... More

Recently spent two lovely nights here with my Mum. Location is fantastic tram from the airport almost stops outside hotel. Staff were lovely to deal with from start to finish, friendly and welcoming throughout seemed genuinely happy to be there and to help you. Breakfast was good both mornings with plenty to eat however some pastries would have been nice.... More

We just stayed for a night in a twin room overlooking a depressing courtyard. The decor in the room was nice but the bathroom and the room were in need of a good clean and maintenence. Excellent location, receptionist was very pleasant and helpful.

First time in Edinburgh . Had hire car and found it almost impossible to get to. Only 15 min parking around corner. Tried to ring hotel to get directions, but phone kept ringing out. Room was very poor with old bed. Staff were OK. And breakfast was good. Position good.

i needed a hotel close to Rabbies Tours, a place where I could relax after an overnight flight but still see sights of Edinburgh. I could not believe that I got a room with a view of the Edinburgh Castle which towers over this beautiful city. I was able to walk to the castle the day I arrived and also... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
