14 Hart Street was an unbelievably wonderful place to begin our vacation in the UK! It would be hard to say enough positive things about this small B&B. We arrived, very tired, from a long overseas flight, and were welcomed warmly by James and Angela. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower--well, I wish mine at home were as... More

14 Hart Street is a charming bed and breakfast with two very accommodating and interesting hosts. The home is decorated with prints and photos that, alone, could provide a fascinating history tour. Breakfasts are served to suit you, unlike two other bed and breakfast places I have stayed in in Edinburgh. The hot breakfasts are freshly cooked to order, and... More

We spent two nights in Hart Street visiting family in Edinburgh. Angela and James were very welcoming and they have a beautiful house. Our room was lovely with an extremely comfortable bed and a very modern en suite bathroom. The little touches make all the difference - big soft towels, complimentary wine and whisky and shortbread biscuits! Breakfast is very... More

In the heart of Edinburgh, hart street is a gem. Angela and James are the perfect hosts. Room was spotless with added extras shortcrust biscuits and whisky. Breakfasts were made to order and to individual tastes. A genuinely wonderful stay would recommend to a anyone.

James and Angela were both hugely welcoming and charming hosts throughout our stay. They managed to be there when we had a question and give us complete privacy at the same time, brilliant. The 14 Hart Street is a beautiful building and our room was elegant and fantastically comfortable. Highly recommended.

Steve and myself stayed for a couple of wonderful nights in April 2015. The location is fantastic, it is just a short walk to central Edinburgh and there are several really great restaurants/bars within walking distance. Our double room was exceptional, not only in the style and comfort of the room but the very high standard of cleanliness. The whole... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at 14 Hart Street on the 18th April 2015 for one night in a double room downstairs. As soon as we were welcomed into the building we were giving each other gleeful looks as we realised we had hit upon a gem! We only stayed one night and didn't get to relax and enjoy our... More

14 Hart Street is in a classic Edinburgh building, very near the centre (you could easily walk to Princes Street) and well-located near Broughton Street, which has a great choice of bars, cafes, restaurants, and traditional pubs (although you don't hear any noise). As I grew up in Edinburgh, I really appreciated the chance to stay in a beautiful house... More

My husband and I stayed at 14 Hart Street for 3 nights while visiting our daughter, who is studying at the University of Edinburgh. We had a wonderful time exploring the city and came home to a very comfortable room and a good night's sleep. Our breakfasts were delicious and full of variety. We enjoyed getting to know the other... More

We now know why 14 , Hart St. has such a high ranking on Tripadvisor - and it's well deserved. James and Angela are warm and welcoming and their B&B is a high quality find within 10 mins. easy walk from Waverley Station and Princes Street. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
