My boyfriend and I stayed at 14 Hart Street on the 18th April 2015 for one night in a double room downstairs. As soon as we were welcomed into the building we were giving each other gleeful looks as we realised we had hit upon a gem! We only stayed one night and didn't get to relax and enjoy our... More

14 Hart Street is in a classic Edinburgh building, very near the centre (you could easily walk to Princes Street) and well-located near Broughton Street, which has a great choice of bars, cafes, restaurants, and traditional pubs (although you don't hear any noise). As I grew up in Edinburgh, I really appreciated the chance to stay in a beautiful house... More

My husband and I stayed at 14 Hart Street for 3 nights while visiting our daughter, who is studying at the University of Edinburgh. We had a wonderful time exploring the city and came home to a very comfortable room and a good night's sleep. Our breakfasts were delicious and full of variety. We enjoyed getting to know the other... More

We now know why 14 , Hart St. has such a high ranking on Tripadvisor - and it's well deserved. James and Angela are warm and welcoming and their B&B is a high quality find within 10 mins. easy walk from Waverley Station and Princes Street. Quiet , relaxing rooms with high quality towels , bed linen and some nice... More

I choose this as the accomodation for a surprise trip to propose to my girlfriend, and was not disappointed. The location was ideal, the house itself was suited to both the younger and older guest, beautiful rooms and a fantastic breakfast. James and Angella were lovely hosts, chatting that perfect amount that made you feel welcome but in no way... More

This is my second stay at 14Hart Street, in Edimbourgh and it was again excelent. For me, the best option to stay in the City. Not only 'cause prices, comparing with any hotel, but for the friendly attention offer by owners, much better, familiar and charm than offered in a Hotel. Absolutely recomendable. If anytime there is a third, we'll... More

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 4 nights as a surprise for his Birthday, and we cannot fault a thing. Classy bedrooms, with style and comfort, whisky on arrival, absolutely gorgeous house. The breakfasts were delicious, and being vegetarians they even provided us with veggie sausages. Can't wait to come back!

We were keen to return to Edinburgh and knew that we had to go back to 14 Hart Street - we were not disappointed! Angela and James were as charming and helpful as ever. Our room was quiet, comfortable and warm, and the bathroom had the most amazing shower. Breakfast was an absolute joy, too. The dining room is elegant... More

My husband and I stayed at 14 Hart Street for two nights 21st-23rd February - I booked the trip as a surprise for his 30th birthday and I am SO glad I found this wonderful B&B. I cannot fault a single thing - the stay from start to finish was perfect and James and Angela are such wonderful hosts; so... More

My girlfriend and I stayed here last week, and can not fault our stay. 14 Hart Street is a wonderful B & B. James and Angela are fantastic hosts, making you feel welcome from the moment you book your room. The whole place has a wonderful "homely" feel to it, and the breakfast is excellent (although maybe too good -... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
