Stayed for 2 nights at 14 hart Street at the end of June 2015. Room was lovely, very quiet even though so close to the city centre. Lots of nice wine bars and eateries near by. Great hosts, very attentive, friendly and genuinely very nice people. Great breakfast and the whiskey, wine and shortbread biscuits were very welcome after a... More

Great location, and the host was extremely helpful. Really good breakfast daily, a variety of options were available as well as a cooked meal. The room was very neat and a good size. I would definitely go back!

14 Hart Street was our first stop on our first trip to Scotland. Very easy access from the airport tram. James and Angela were helpful and welcoming. Our first introduction to Scottish breakfast was delightful. The room was quiet and very comfortable. We were close enough to walk to Princes Street, the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle and catch the... More

Very well situated for a visit to Ediburgh. The house is tastefully furnished and the breakfast extensive and delicious. The owners are friendly and helpful. We found the twin room rather small and the bathroom even smaller. It would have been better to have had no television at all as it was too small to watch from the beds. Payment... More

Hartstreet, Owner at 14 Hart Street, responded to this review

I suspect that you were keen to have a significant amount of "personal space". On your arrival, you asked for two rooms instead of the twin room that you had reserved. Unfortunately, it was not possible to do this. We do not have a card-machine and always explain this to our guests in advance. We had, in fact, explained this... More

My mother, brother and I stayed here for a couple of nights in early June - the objective of the trip was to visit HMY Britannia. Our hosts, James and Angela could not have been more welcoming, hospitable or helpful from the moment we stepped over the threshold of their beautiful Georgian home until we waved them goodbye. The rooms... More

This Bed and Breakfast, finely situated in the heart of Edinburgh's Georian New Town is owned and operated by the ever so well informed and congenial couple Angela and James Wilson. The house is beautifully appointed, comfortable and warm. The couple sets a splendid breakfast table and James offers and cooks a delicious breakfast with requests or suggestions for full... More

We have stayed with James and Angela a few times now, and this is the B&B we always recommend to anyone who is planning a stay in Edinburgh. We love the place and this time was no exception. The room was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The breakfast great, as usual. The location couldn't be better, and James and Angela... More

We can highly recommend 14 Hart Street. Angela and James were so lovely, the house is tastefully furnished, the rooms also and we felt very comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and the house is well located, i.e. only a short walk to Princess Street, Royal Mile etc. Nevertheless very quiet. In short, it is a perfect B&B for a visit... More

We have just returned home refreshed and relaxed after spending four nights at 14 Hart Street. The location is ideal, near to London Road where the half marathon was beginning and close to the shops and myriad of attractions that Edinburgh offers, both historical and geographical. James and Angela are charming hosts, very welcoming and friendly and offer helpful suggestions... More

spent two nights after trip to Stirling. We love Edinburgh and 14 Hart Street is our first choice when it comes to where to stay. Angela and James are such good hosts efficient, helpful but not overwhelming. We always go for same room which is so comfortable with lovely bathroom and very nice bed. Plenty of hot water and heating... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
