Flew up to Edinburgh solo for an appointment which I was feeling anxious about. Received quick, friendly replies to my email enquiry and questions beforehand. Easy journey on the £7.50 airlink 100 (return) ticket, then No 16 short bus ride from George Street to Duke Street crossroads at Leith (ask the driver to call you). Maggie was really nice, welcoming,... More

The Pillars House Hotel is very friendly and you feel immediately at home (or at least I did anyway!). The manageress was lovely and very chatty which is nice when you're travelling alone. I find in a lot of places that when you travel alone the staff are never sure how to treat you but I felt like I was... More

We stayed here two nights for NYE 2013/14- I can't imagine staying anywhere else now after our brief visit, the staff are warm and welcoming, and really show that they care about you, the breakfast was beautiful and bedrooms clean and tidy. We are very thankful for your hospitality and highly recommend you as a fantastic b&b that is a... More

Such an excellent place. The breakfast was fantastic and the rooms were spotless. Our Hostess Edna, was accommodating with of our unplanned tardiness to book, and helpfully suggesting a tour of the highland. The warmth and welcoming of the place coupled with knowledge of local eateries, is a must stay for those coming to Scotland, much less Edinburgh. Our only... More

I think I must have stayed in a completely different B&B than the previous reviewer. The place was spotlessly clean, the staff constantly providing us with lots of lovely fresh towels, breakfast was cooked in front of us in a perfectly clean and hygienic kitchen and we practically had to demand they give the housekeeping a miss during our brief... This is the first negative review we have ever written but feel it is necessary to warn other travelers!!! The place is very dirty, no sheets on the bed, our room smelled horrible and exhaust from the kitchen filled our room. Smelled like burning grease all night. If it was not so late when we arrived we would have told... More
