We found the Dorstan Private Hotel through the Edinburgh TI at a rate of 25 pppn for a double en suite. We were very excited when we arrived to a very large house just off of the main bus route taking you easily and quickly to central Edinburgh. The room itself was adequate with large windows and a bathroom that... more

We stayed here while in Edinburgh for a friend's wedding. The room was basic but OK, and the breakfast was fine. Our problem came after. We paid for our full stay on departure. A few days later the bride told me that she had paid for us in advance so we contacted the hotel for a refund. We have not... more

Very good location in walking distance of downtown with good parking. Excellent breakfast including haggis! Rooms cheap but basic and need a good clean. Could also use refurbishment of bed linen, pillows, towels which are shabby. We were out most of time so it worked well for us. more

Our son had originally stayed at Dorstan House for one night in September of 2008 when transitioning for his study-abroad semester. He had found DH in Rick Steve's book. Our son had no problems with the booking, or stay, and he enjoyed the breakfast. We stayed at Dorstan House in early November of 2008 for 5 days and 4 nights.... more

Room didn't seem clean and the provided cotton swabs where used - revolting. :( Mold and watermarks on ceiling. The price we had to pay was not the price we agreed in when we had booked the rooms (₤66 instead of ₤50) - no pricelist on internet! Be aware! Other staff was o.k. Nice building from outside and situated in... more

The Hotel is spacious but with rather tired tatty looking decor . Please do the bathrooms up. The cleaner lady that also helped with the breakfasts was excellent and very helpful. The buses were very easy to get into town and there is a large car park in a quiet residential street to leave your car. There is a large... more

This was a very nice place to stay. We were not expecting anything fancy, just wanted something basic and clean! We were pleasantly surprised, because although it was basic, it still had a charm to it and was tasteful. It was a short, 5-minute bus ride from downtown. Apparently most b & b's in Edinburgh are just outside of central... more

The hotel is nice and the landlady lovely! There is a variety of choice for breakfast, which is very nice. The rooms are a bit small (much smaller than what is shown on the website) but clean. However, the bathrooms were not clean at all (mouldy walls, a musty smell and dirty shower curtain). A three star hotel should be... more

Clean comfortable accommodation but ran into some problems which gives me great cause for concern. I was attending a wedding nearby with my parents and having made the original booking in January, I then provided 9 days notice that I was cancelling the third night of my stay in order to tour elsewhere and was suddenly told there was a... more
