This was our 4th visit to this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. The three rooms are all well appointed, large and well heated, important for a mid winter visit to Edinburgh. The cooked breakfasts are delicious and prepared exactly how you want. There was a wide range of alternatives so on the second morning we sampled the fresh Scottish raspberries and... More

My wife and I just spent six nights at the Victorian Town House. We had a wonderful visit and will stay there again on our next visit. The location is excellent, only five minutes walk from Haymarket train station and twenty minutes from Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street. Aileen is an excellent host, friendly and outgoing with lots of ideas... More

My girlfriend and I chose the Victorian Town House for our recent stay in Edinburgh. The B&B is conveniently located in the city's West End, only minutes away from Haymarket tram station and Princes Street. Our room, the Dunedin Room, was indeed a big and highly comfortable one. It included two large beds, a sofa and table, an en-suite bathroom... More

What can I say that's not already been said, I felt like family from the moment I walked through the door to Aileen's sensational bed and breakfast, nothing is too much trouble, extremely welcoming and introducing each guest to each other at breakfast was a lovely gesture. Location is fab, ten to fifteen minutes walk in to the heart of... More

My wife and I stayed here during our first visit to Edinburgh and it was fantastic. We arrived slightly earlier than the usual check in time and got our room immediately. Aileen, who owns the B&B is so friendly and she took a lot of time explaining the surrounding attractions, what to do, where to go and what was on... More

We were very pleased with our stay. Of our visits here, in London, Derby, Carlisle, Belfast, and Dublin, this was the best. Aileen is a wonderful host, and the room was remarkable. Walking distance to downtown, and in a great neighborhood...two doors from the German consulate. A great place to stay in a truly remarkable city. Strongly recommend!

We stayed in this delightful B&B for a few days prior to attending our daughter's wedding in North Berwick. Aileen was a lovely host and very chatty. She couldn't do enough for us and her delicious breakfasts were amazing, cooked to individual preferences! Our room was spacious and very comfortable with a welcome treat of whiskey and chocolates included. Everything... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
