Super B&B located close to transport system and 15 minutes walk from city centre. Stayed in the Caledonian room. Well equipped and comfortable. Chocolates & small whiskey decanter much appreciated. Breakfast excellent, plenty of choice but we stayed with the same choice very day ..:-) even my request for a broken fried egg everyday was accommodated. Aileen was a good... More

We loved this B&B with its huge en suite room, comfy bed and friendly atmosphere. Aileen's generous welcome including complimentary whisky and chocolates was wonderful. The location is close to transport, great pub and a variety of local eateries and an easy walk to the castle and central shops. Guests are given keys to the garden entrance which makes it... More

We now visit Aileen and this lovely Bed And Breakfast twice a year and even then it doesn't seem often enough. There is little to be said that hasn't been said before. Aileen is a first class host, the accommodation is spacious and beautifully furnished and the location is just right. It's about a 15 minute walk into the city... More

The minute my wife and I entered this house we felt welcomed, comfortable and started to enjoy each of Aileen's treats, one of which is her easy laugh and smart conversation. Although we only stayed for two nights - while visiting friends in the city - we immediately felt like old friends of the house. The room is huge, with... More

This is the third time we have stayed in this is small Bed and Breakfast, so we have now slept in all the rooms. Aileen is a wonderful host. The rooms are large with comfortable beds and generous provision of bathroom toiletries. Breakfast is delicious, freshly cooked and excellent quality. We loved the fresh fruit bowl. Staying here is like... More

Absolutely fabulous B&B very close to the Haymarket train station, walkable. The rooms are all different decor and very spacious. Alieen is very knowledgeable about her city and cooks an absolutely fabulous breakfast. The location is very quiet but only about 5 minutes from the local pubs and restaurants and 15 minutes walk from the city. We will certainly return.

My husband and I, along with his 80 yr old father and our youngest daughter, spent five lovely nights in Edinburgh at The Victorian Town House. This was our first trip to Scotland and Aileen, our dear sweet Inn Keeper, made our trip seem like a fairy tale. Every morning Aileen cooked the most delicious authentic Scottish breakfast, brewed the... More

There's one thing unforgettable about this B&B - the host Aileen :) The B&B is located very close to the Haymarket area; a location that has many good places to eat and drink already. To get in to the city center I most frequently walked, taking only about 15 minutes but you could just as easily jump on a tram... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
