The Hostel's location is excellent as is its bar and hiegene. But there are 2 things that made it near impossible to sleep. Noise of other guests at the bar and the heat in the room which was way to hot.

Safe and Clean. The showers and toilets in the room. Pure white towels and sheets. The room are big and nice. The Scottish breaskfast and food in the Bar50 are pretty good. Great local live music. Finally, It is located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.

Great location not far from train station. Very reasonably priced. Comfortable and clean. Ideal for group of girls as all in one room. Breakfast was £4.95 for help yourself buffet. Would highly recommend.

Very clean with a good personnal, the shower and the toilets in the room are nice and there is always hot water in the shower. The breakfast isn't very good but if you eat in the bar 50 in the evening, the food is really dilicious.

Excellent location. Less that 10 minutes walking distance from the main tourist attractions, including the Edinburgh Castle. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Great bar. Beds are comfortable and bedrooms and bathrooms are clean. Very good value for money.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The low price was worth every penny. Rooms perfect always had hot running water and warm (in January) and situated in the most central area. Highly recommend this.

The staff are very knowledgable about the area and are extremely helpful in suggesting places to go/things to see. Great place to stay and cost effective. smartbar50 is very nice. Room service was not very good.

We were originally booked in another hostel but after they double booked us they got us booked into smart city hostels. It was really nice and we had our own toilet in the room which was better. Clean and comfy beds. It's walkable to the centre but you may have to taxi it.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
