Excellent spot for location and very clean and tidy, quite basic but a lot more than i had expected it to be, room keys used for hallway which keeps others out which is great, bar food very reasonable priced and breakfast excellent plenty to choose from

This was my first hostel experience and I must say I wasn't disappointed. I stayed in a mixed dorm for 8. Clean room and bathrooms. Good staff and nice bar. The only thing I thought could have been better is the check in time. Their check in is at 3 p.m and after a flight and dragging around a big... More

The hostel was a nice place to say for my partner and I on our honeymoon. We paid a bit extra for the private room, which was two twin beds that we just moved together. It wasn't anything special and was about £45 a night, so unless you really want to be private, I would probably recommend the dorm style.... More

What a place, stayed for the weekend for my brothers stag. Have never stayed in a hostel before but this place is really top trumps, staff are great, I would certainly recommend the food and the bar which is reasonably priced And the food is better than many city centre locations, already planning a return for September - best place... Staff was very nice and helpful, knew much about the surroundings and had great recommedations about what to do in the city. Also when i asked about what to do in Glasgow. Bar in hostel is very nice and lively. There's a curfew for staying out on the terrace, so if you have to get up early it's perfect. The... More

Great location and great staff. Personally I found this place so comfortable that it did not really feel like a hostel to me. Clean rooms and sheets. I would definitely recommend this place and the breakfast is also worth trying. Plus you are just by the royal mile!

Smart City Hostel is the perfect place to stay for a weekend in Edinburgh. As a group of 11 girls we were very happy to find that we'd be given two private rooms, both of which were clean with comfortable beds and good showers. Everyone was impressed with the substantial breakfast that was included in the very reasonable price of... More

Great prize! Which includes: WiFi, clean sheets and towel, amazing rooms, two showers and two toilets in rooms with 6 beds, great breakfast- though a bit limiting on how much you're allowed to eat, amazing inside and outside lounge area, fantastic location, helpful staff, a wide selection of posters and pamphlets to help find what you want to do. It's... More

This was one of the more reasonable accommodations we found in Edinburgh. A triple room for GBP 165 for 3 nights. It's a small room with a bunk single bed. However, the beds are quite comfy. The bathroom is decent sized and the shower has great hot water. This was my first time in a hostel. We're a family of... More

Thanks for taking the time to review us. Although we are a city centre venue and can be really quite noisy, like you've said in your review, there are times when noise is never an issue. Thanks and hope to see you again soon Jayne @ SCH More

I stayed here for one night - I booked into a 4-room dorm and ended up having the room to myself. The staff were helpful, the room was clean and had everything I needed; the shower nice and powerful! The only downsides were that the wifi was poor, and I was initially sent up with my luggage to the wrong... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
