Perfect little place if you plan on staying a few days. Food is probably better than what you would expect from a hostel. Staff are friendly even the bouncers. Lockers are spacious as well as the rooms themselves. WiFi can be dodgy at times but works usually fine

Stayed in a 4 bunk en suite room with my teenage children. Room was quite small but beds were decent size and comfy. Room itself and en suite wet room really clean and linen was nice and fresh. Reception staff were great and bar is good too. We stayed during the fringe and for four of us the £150 per... More

Arrived late on the Thursday and left on the Sunday. Room was very clean and spacious and the shower was amazing! Lockers were big enough for me to fit inside too. The breakfast was varied and well presented, and the staff were very friendly. The bar at night was really social and the drinks cheap, student discount applied so made... More

When I think Hostels I think a little bit grunge, shared bathrooms, etc, but that was not the case. The rooms were immaculate, bright, private, with a private bathroom and clean sheets and towels almost every day! Great location just off the mile, great bar downstairs, staff was super helpful.. Would for sure stay here again!

In August it's hard to find a budget place to stay in Edinburgh so I'm not expecting too much. This hostel is good enough for its price. Clean room with an en-suite bathroom, friendly staff. Breakfast was ok (some hot food was overcooked though). Wi-fi can be a bit slow depending on time. Location is excellent, just a few minutes... More

Just got home after staying 11 nights at the hostel. We had a large group of students and adult chaperones. Front office was very helpful in finding places to eat and getting around the town. The breakfast was fine and a good way to start the day. The bar was noisy on Saturday night, but this was expected as the... More

Booked 3 nights with breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Beds were clean just a bit squeaky. Bathroom and shower both very clean. Breakfast every morning was fantastic definitely recommend. Easy to find and very central, extremely close to the royal mile. Staff try to be helpful but I found that 2 of them at the service desk didn't really know what... More

It is a great hostel in Edinburgh. It is on the pricier end of hostels, so it is quite a nice place. The staff at the reception and at the bar were really nice. I stayed at the 4 person shared room. The shower was quite nice and worked well. The bed was comfy. The location is about 10 min... More

Thanks for reviewing us We are glad you had a great time here. We are sorry about then noise. At this time of year, Edinburgh is not quiet and our bar is normally full, given we are a free fringe venue. We do try our best to manage the noise as far as we can. Thanks, Jayne @ SCH More

I stayed for 3 nights, it was one of the best hostels I've been to. Arrived to a spotless dorm; bed sheets were crispy clean & even got a towel. The staff were friendly at the front desk. They have a laundry which was much needed after 4 days in Dublin without one. I was sharing with 3 the night... More

If you arestaying for more than a day I really recommend staying. The staff are super helpful and you have free tours that pick you up from the hostel. There is a bar and a restaurnat in the ground floor with pool tables and you have free luggage storage. The wifi even reaches your room although its best in the... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
