I spent three nights at the Straven and have to say it is one of the best guesthouses I have stayed in and I stay in a few. Mac is a wonderful man who cannot do enough for you the hospitality is wonderful. His wife Marian cooks the best breakfast and the combinations and selection would put most hotels to... more

We recently stayed at the Straven Guest House on a trip to Edinburgh. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The accomodation was excellent. The food was also excellent. Mac and Marion, a delightful couple, were very accomodating with a food allergy I have. We would recommend this to anyone who is thinking of a trip to Edinburgh. more

If you would like a quiet, relaxing stay away from the hurley-burley of the City but within very easy reach of the City (buses go every 5 minutes - yes, every 5 minutes), then the Straven is for you. The bus stop is 4 minutes away and the beach is only 1 minute away. What more could you ask? Well,... more

Found it very easy with the directions the owners emailed us (the night before). A beautiful house with high Victorian ceilings and was very clean inside. We had received good information about buses, eating out etc, from... more

Mac and Marion were soooo friendly and helpful, and also very cheery in the mornings whilst serving our delicious breakfast which was gorgous and... more

Arriving in freezing Edinburgh from scorching Buenos Aires was not easy for us but Mac and Marian did their best to keep us warm and cosy. Breakfasts out of this world with that refined Scottish touch Mac gives all his B&B. Exotic orchids and green plants decorated our breakfast lounge .... The room spotless clean and the shower excellent! Leaflets... more

Every positive review you've read is right! This is a great place. We had a girls' trip to the UK and spent a few nights here. We had a view of the Firth of Forth from our room and spent time wandering the boardwalk. Mac and his wife are wonderful hosts - they are so friendly and more than willing... more
