We stayed here for 2 nights for a weekend break in Edinburgh and were not dissapointed. The guest house is slightly out of town but very close to the beach. The location was not a problem at all as there is a bus stop at the end of the road which takes about 20 mins into the centre. When coming... More

With the weather being a bit nasty and wet the warmth and cheeriness of the hosts were super. The house and the rooms were decorated beautifully, the lounge was super to sit in at the end of the day and while cruising the internet we enjoyed a sip of brandy (we brought). The food, morning music and singing were also... More

My fiance and I had a late check in and Mac and Maurine were more than helpful. Plenty of help and advise to get around Edinburgh though we were close enough to walk to Arthur's seat and the city (about 20-30min walk) with great dining recommendation also. The room is incredibly comfortable as was the bed and en suite was... More

Normally I only say in hotels but somehow decided to try a B&B and let me tell you what a great experience it was! Straven guesthouse is not a luxurious but a very homy and cozy place. The location is not central and normally that would be a problem for me but not this time as the seaside location is... More

I am sure there are many fine Guest Houses in Edinburgh but a finer one than this I doubt. I arranged for 2 friends from France to stay at Straven Guest House and their journey was a nightmare long delays and lost luggage to name but a few but on arrival at the guest house they were greeted with a... We stayed here for a couple of nights in pursuit of Alexander McCall Smith locations and an exhibition at the Museum of Scotland. It really is the best place we have ever stayed and we like it better than the Hilton! A beautiful house, well kept and full of lovely little details , like a painted cornice, flowers everywhere -... My wife and I stayed at Straven in September for three nights. The room was comfortable and clean. The Best breakfast in 4 B and B's in UK, never had better waffles anywhere. The McCools were friendly and helpful. The only complaint that I would have is it takes at least 30 minutes on the bus to get to city... More

My wife and I began a 9-day stay in the UK at Straven House for 2 nights. Everything was terrific-- the room, food, Mac and MaryAnn's hospitality and recommendations. The location was great for a total getaway-- off the beaten path enough to feel away, but accessible to the city. We would certainly do it all over again. We worked... More

We (6 friends) stayed in the Straven Guest House for 1 night. We were received by mrs. Mac very friendly and helpful. The house is very lovely, als well as the rooms. Also there was a great common room, which we didn't use. Close to the house there is a bus stop. The buses take you to Edinburgh in 20... More
